if you are induced..

does it make the contractions come on stronger? as it what ive heard, as i had my first was induced as she was 12 days overdue.

I have nothing to compare my inductiont o but the contractions wernt that stron but i had a pessary induction so i cot contraction like pains from that when i wasnt actually having a contraction, i found it a smooth east labour and birth, there not as bad a some people make out. but thats jsut my expeirience

I also have nothing to compare with - was induced both times.

However, I don't think the induction per se makes contractions stronger - what did do that for me was having the syntocinon drip - which I hated - very intense and almost continuous contrctions.

Second time around I just had the gel, and my waters broken and it was much better.

Dd2 was induced in hospital - 2 weeks overdue.

I had the pessary and found the contractions went from nothing to very strong, very quickly.

Dd2 came out looking pretty blue.

I have no personal experience, but I have heard that having your membranes ruptured can make the contractions come on stronger and more painful.

I was induced with pessaries only. No one - not even the consultant - expected it to work but within hours I was having terrible pains. I was told afterwards that the chemicals in the pessaries 'irritate everything' which can end up bringing on labour. Even between contractions which went from non-existent to overwhelming I was in severe pain so I was suffering 2 layers of pain - one of which was unceasing. I am glad I didn't know before hand that induction could be such a nightmare. Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear but I don't think my case is the norm.

i was induced with jess.... my experience was as follows....

pessery at 7pm thursday night
water broken at 10am friday morning
first contractions felt at 5pm
too much pain, epidural administered at 5.45pm
jess born at 2.49am

My mother was induced for both my elder brother's birth and my birth, but not my younger brother. She seemed to prefer not being induced, told me the contractions felt quite different with induction.

The process of induction was ok for me. Not particularly comfortable but not too bad. What really got me was how quick the contractions took hold. The shock took my breath away. I wish looking back that I had been aware that that might happen and I would have been more prepared for it. I was under the impression that labour would start mildly like period pain and build up giving me time to accustom myself to it a bit more. It was the middle of the night in the hospital and I felt very frightened- like everything was going too quick. To anyone having an induction I would say don't be afraid to ask for pain relief as soon as you want.

I had my waters broken at 2 p.m. and things were manageable just with a TENS machine (I think!) but by 6 p.m. I hadn't progressed much beyond the 3cm I was when I started. So they whacked in the syntocinon and by 9 p.m. I was begging for an epidural. My dh tells me when they had got that started the midwife quadrupled the dose of syntocinon, god only knows what that would have been like without an epidural.

As far as I know - again, with nothing to compare - it's the syntocinon that makes the contractions worse. Certainly that's what my cleaning lady told me (luckily after the fact) and she has five, is now pregnant with number 6!

I had my waters broken with DS2, and they ruptured naturally with DD and I don't recall any great difference between them. There was a big difference between those however, and my experience with DS2 who was induced using the drip. The build up that took 8 1/2 hrs with DS1, only took 1/2 hr with DS2 so it very intense and a bit scarey - I wouldn't say it was more painful though.

i was induced with ds when i was 12 days overdue.

i had the pessary at 8.30am and they started at about 1pm.

i hadn't had any bh's so i thought i was going to have a really long labour, when they did start they were coming every two mins and did so from then on. at 2.30pm i had my waters broken so must have been 2-3cm i surpose. contractions still coming every two mins but the still put me on the drip as they weren't doing much. by 11.30 i was 5cm and had an epidural. mw's got me ready for theatre as they thought coz id had an epidural and it was my first that i wouldn't be able to deliver as wouldn't be able to feel the pushing. by 3.30 i was 8cm was left till 5.30 and was fuuly dilated but was left for another hrs to allow baby to come down abit by its self. at 6.30 started pushing and he was born am hr later (so the midwives were proved wrong and i didn't tear at all)

so to anwser your question (after me giving you my whole birth story which you never asked for sorry) i don't think the pessary or breaking your waters really make them quicker or stronger but i think if you have the drip then it does.
