Can my illness endanger my baby?

I say "Illness" but I have some sort of cold which I caught off my dh. He got over it in 2 days whereas I am wheezing and coughing like a good un 5 days later and my 20m lo is also stil coughing. I am 40+10 pregnant and not showing any signs of fighing this off yet. When my baby is born will she get this cold or will she be immune even though my body has not killed it off yet?

Are you planning to breast feed? If you do, your baby will have some immunity.
Hope you're feeling better soon, and manage to get a bit or rest before labour begins.

If you are wheezing a bit it would be worth seeing the Dr and getting checked over - being in the later stages of pregnancy does make you a little bit more likely to get a chest infection after a cold (you can't use your lungs properly because the baby's taking up too much room). Its unlikely to affect the baby, but they might want to keep an eye on you (and you should already be producing antibodies, even if they haven't won the war yet, so your baby should have some protection - and more if you BF)

i hope you feel better soon, we're in a similar boat here though Im only 40 weeks. I've had an awful cold for days and now my DH and 20mnth DD have it, last thing i want is to have a baby and bring him/her into a house of germs! You will pass on your immunity to the baby so I think he/she will be OK. I asked the midwife about going into labour and being ill she told me that most of the time the baby will 'wait' until you are better before making an appearance. Dont know how true that is or not. I would pop along to the doctor though if you are wheezing.
Dont forget it will take you longer to get over a simple cold as your immune system is suppressed at the moment unlike your DH.

I do hope you feel better very very soon!

Go and speak to GP asap - if its an infection you can start on antibiotics which could help you get better v quickly.
