It's standard following a breech presentation. DD was breech and had her hip scan - was fine. She is now 7 and hasn't had any problems. Don't worry, I'm sure it will be fine and if there are any problems they will be picked up very early. Congratulations on your new baby

DD was breech and had a hip scan at 6 weeks after delivery. It was fine. For her scan I had to undress her and then lay her on a bed with big firm cushioned pads on either side . I had hold of her hand and could stroke her skin to keep her calm. They held a wand-like probe against her hip for a moment and then we turned her around and they did the other side. All done in less than 20 minutes. No problems afterwards (she's nearly 5 now).

Not sure if all areas do the exact same process but it will probably be similar. Don't worry, they know you will be anxious and should be supportive.

Duh! Didn't answer the question. They are looking for signs that the hips aren't properly aligned. A friend of mine also had a breech baby and her dd was slightly affected. She had to wear a support for about 6 weeks to gently guide things back into place from what I remember. Her DD is now 2 and perfect in every way!

Ds was breech and had to have a hip scan, it only took a few moments and it was fine.

My friends daughter who was a head presention had hip displasia and had to spend 10 weeks in a kind of brace and her hips are now fine. The brace kind of held her legs in a certain position untill the sockets had grown round the balls ( well that is how she explained it to me ) Her hips are fine now, she's 4 and charging about all over the show !

Even if they do find a problem, it's easily rectified, dont panic yourself

My DD was breech and had a hip scan at 6 weeks too. Exactly as redfraggle described. We were really worried too but it was fine, very quick and my DD slept the whole time!

DS1 was breech and had a hip scan, everything was fine. It'll probably be fine, don't worry. Oh and congrats on the birth

I've had two breech pgs, both dc's had hip scans and were fine!

If you have a little boy just be careful...they strip them down and my DS promptly wee'd all over the Dr - lovely

DD was breech and had hip dysplasia. The ultra sound scan showed her sockets were too shallow (the hip check at the hospital showed nothing, moved house, lost appointments so she was nearly 5 months by the time she was scanned!!).

She had to have a hard plastic brace on all the time for 5 months, then a few months just for bed. I was so upset at first and she didn't bat an eyelid!!!!!! We were only allowed to take if off for a very quick bath and essential nappy change. Within a few days it became the norm. She then had 6 month then annual x-rays to check them. She was discharged when she was 4 and has never had any trouble, and obviously can't remember any of it.

It's a worry cos it's your baby, but i figured in the grand scheme of things (and things we've subsequently been through) it's not such a big deal after all.

Good luck with your scan - hope all goes well....and if there is something the sooner they find out the easier it is to treat.

My DD was breech, and I thought the six week check would be routine. It discovered one hip not in its socket at all. I was quite shocked at first.

She wore various contraptions that really did not bother her much, including a cast in the end cos her condition was quite severe, but now is absolutely fine and does not remeber a thing (she's three.)

My mum, on the other hand, was never diagnosed as a child and then had lots of pain later and early hip replacements. Much much beter to find out ow if there's a problem, cos it can easily be fixed - but the chances are she'll be absolutely fine.
