hi,
my partner and i resumed sex a few weeks ago and i found it quite painful, worse as it went on as if it was rubbing where i tore sorry if tmi....my tear wasnt perenial by the looks of it,feels like it was inside near the entrance if that makes sense....anyway whenever i have sex it feels like im back to square one as it stings but on a day to day basis i feel fine...
i would be too embarassed to see a doc...sounds stupid i know considering i gave birth! im just wondering if anyone has experienced similar and if after 8 weeks it is only early days? should i give up on sex for a while to let it heal?
thanks

I had similar problem, (also needed internal stitches) and did go to GP, she was very nice but basically laughed and said "of course it bloody hurts, you've just had a baby, give it a few more weeks and you'll be fine." and I was. Hope that's some reassurance. I think some people just heal quicker, have tears in places that aren't in such a vulnerable area, or perhaps the lucky few don't tear or graze (ouch) so much in the first place. I'm sure if you started a thread called "how long did you wait to have sex after giving birth" you'd get a very large range of answers!

Hurt for about 8 months (sorry, probably not what you want to hear! but I daresay everyone's experience is different). Then it got better (around the time I stopped breastfeeding, fwiw).

No need to give up entirely though - there are ways to help (lube good) and other things you can do!

i found it very painful for months, we just had to take it really slow, and i found some positions hurt way more than others. And as aquavit says- lube is a good help!

Didn't actually have sex until DD was about 5 months (but I did bleed for the first 12 weeks, then got AF straight away!) and by then, didn't feel any pain at all. Was very pleasantly surprised! Just give it some more time is my advice.
