I would like to give the MW who delivered DD a present

she was fabulous - i was too shell shocked after a very fast birth to really thank her

what would be nice - some chocs or something different?

RS - First many congratulations! Birth story when you are up to it?
Could I suggest not chocs - I work in a job where we are always getting boxes of chocs and biscuits and we are getting fat!! What abour a plant for your MW's garden - that way she will have something to remeber you and DD by! Just a thought.....

At DD1s birth I vaguely recall a totally surreal conversation between MW and DP about gardening which involved offering her the placenta as compost!

she was very nice about it but didnt take us up on our offer!

Flowers delivered to work are always a lovely surprise!

I'm a midwife and the nicest presents I have are a card with a lovely message inside saying what a fab midwife I was at their birth I keep them all and they are very precious to me.

Please don't worry about getting a present - I've had chocs (always on a diet), wine (teetotaller), ornaments (hate clutter). Although the theatre tickets I once had were lovely....

Don't get flowers, they will get delivered to work and if you are on leave for a few days, you won't get to enjoy them.

I was only chatting to some collegues the other day about this and we all agreed that cards with a little description of the birth and what mums felt we did to help them was the best thing we could have.

I agree with a card - always nice to have a little photo as well. We have a display outside the office.

I gave my MW a card and flowers when she came round for home visit after the birth but I'm not sure all MW's do this? Also she gave me her email address and I send her pics of my little one every so often, it's meant we've sort of stayed in touch and now I'm pregnant with num 2 and have the same MW and it feels lovely as it feels like she's always known how we're doing.
