When did you labour start - day-time or night-time?

Well I'm now a day overdue with DC2. DC1 was 10 days late and my waters broke at night - labour kicked off VERY slowley - in the end I was induced.

So I'm just guessing that most labours start at night and am expecting this one to start the same way - am I wrong?

mine was 1am. i think it's to do with the biorhythms... [masquerading as doctor emoticon]

daniwalkes · 23/02/2010 23:23

My waters broke at about 8am, started having contractions at around 3am but they didn't turn into established labour until around lunch time and had him 6 hours later!
i hear it alot that people often go into labour at night... must be something to do with being relaxed!!!
Good luck and hope it isn't too much longer for you!

Ds1 - woke up 8.30am, 9 days over, with distinctly 'period' like pains. Quickly established labour and admitted to labour ward by lunchtime.

Ds2 - after two false alarms (braxton hicks?), at 7 days over, established by midnight that I needed to be in hospital, was around 4cm dilated when examined.

Labour started at 1am with waters breaking, DS born 11 hours later

NoahAndTheWhale · 23/02/2010 23:36

With DS, waters broke spectacularly at 6:30am. Contractions got going properly at about 6:45pm. He was born at 2:50am the next day.

With DD I woke up about 6:30am. By 6:45am I realised I was in some pain. By about 7:15am I decided to wake DH up. DD was born at 1:26pm and if I had been better at pushing it would have been earlier. I think the contractions might have been happening during the night but I slept through them.

four planned home water births, most of the action has been at night..

dd1 - labour started early afternoon, waters were broken (as labour failed to progress) at about 9pm, meconium in waters so transferred to hospital, baby arrived a little after midnight

dd2 - labour started a little after midnight, waters went in pool approx 2.30, baby arrived approx 2.50am, second midwife approx 5 mins after baby

dd3 - waters went 5am, labour started late afternoon, baby born 6.30pmish, two midwives and student present (first birth student has seen)

ds - waters went 5pm ish, labour started that evening, was a bit stop starty, baby arrived about 3am, midwives arrived approx 5mins after baby.....

Lots of night-time kick off's then! I've been getting quite bad constant period pain for 3 days now.... lots of BH's for weeks. Still nothing...... off to Midwife today and am secretly hoping she'll give me a sweep and say magically that I'm already 5cm dilated! (We can but dream!)

Lovethesea · 24/02/2010 10:20

Started at 4am - woke up, felt weird, threw up four times then started getting contractions every 2 or 3 minutes. Intense.

I was told mammals usually birth at night when it's more hidden and safer - and the idea was women still have some similar instinct.

Lovethesea · 24/02/2010 10:41

Meant to add - was 12 days overdue ...

twinklegreen · 24/02/2010 10:48

I've had different for all my 3.
dd1 waters broke at 7.30am, contractions started about 8.30am she was born at 6.30pm.
ds I was induced, had the gel at 1pm ds born at 6pm.
dd2 started having twinges at about midnight, full blown contractions at 2am, dd2 born at 5am.

Wisenheimer · 24/02/2010 10:53

DS - Started mid afternoon.

DD - Started at about 5:00am.

katiepotatie · 24/02/2010 12:26

Dd mild pains from around 10am, waters broke 10pm, she was born the following afternoon at midday.

Ds, waters broke at midnight, he was born at 830 the following morning after being 11 days overdue, was going to be induced taht day

NinthWave · 24/02/2010 12:30

Mine started at about 6am. I was 4 days overdue.

We went out for an anniversary meal (curry) the night before and I felt fine - no twinges, nothing. DS born 24 hours later.

jeee · 24/02/2010 12:37

Night for all four. MW told me that adrenalin tends to stop body from going into labour (in case you need to run ). When you're asleep adrenalin levels drop and so you're more likely to go into labour.

But once you're in established labour, then adrenalin will speed everything up (in case you need to run ).

Well, that's what the midwife told me, anyway. And I'm sure a health professional would never talk rubbish.

CherryPie3 · 24/02/2010 12:50

dd - waters broke at 10:15am at 35+4
ds - contractions woke me up at 4am, he was born at 13:54 same day.

CherryPie3 · 24/02/2010 12:52

GirlWiththeMouseyHair · 25/02/2010 20:47
