How many of you never had braxton hicks?

....and went on to have a vaginal birth with no induction?
My consultant keeps on asking if I have had any and my last entry on the notes he has conspiciously circled "no tightenings" in pen. I am a bit overdue and hoping for a VBAC.

Is the lack of BH a big deal?

I'm on my 4th pregnancy, victoria. I had BH in the first and had my baby fast and early. The middle two I had no BH, and both ended in induction, one for post-dates. I'm having BH in this one, so who knows what will happen.

That's purely anecdotal though. I'm sure there will be loads of ladies who who have had a spontaneous vaginal birth without BH.

brockleybelle · 23/02/2010 19:02

I had no BH whatsoever in any stage of my first pregnancy. I went on to have a short labour and vaginal birth, one day before my due date. Now pregnant with no2 (27 weeks) and wondering how things will pan out....

2catsand1rabbit · 23/02/2010 19:16

I never heard this before.

I've had one child. I had no BH and went on to be 8 days overdue and have a short natural labour.

My sister's had 3 children all a few days overdue but had short, natural labours and no BH at all.

Are you aure you're not having them? I say this because I remember the Consultant getting hung up about a lack of BH with ds1. However little did I realise I was actually getting them.

Because BH's are sometimes referred to as practice contractions that are painless, and I had read that contractions come in waves, I thought BH were painless tightenings that would ebb and flow and be x amount of minutes apart.

Maybe some people's are, but mine would be my bump going tight and staying that way for about 10 minutes or so, no tight then soft like I expected them to be.

The Consultant is probably being twitchy because you are a VBAC. Ignore them. You can do this. Your body can do this. Your baby will be with you soon. Relax, take time to empty your head of negative and worrying thoughts and connect with your baby

I had no BH and had a straightforward vaginal birth without induction or any need for assistance. 10 days early.

I had no bh with either of my pregnancies.

DS1 was induced at 42+5. Very straightforward labour with just gas and air

DS1 arrived on his due date, again with just gas and air.

My body doesn't seem to like to practise!

did you move? you're with child aren't you? Hope all is well xxx

PfftTheMagicDragon · 23/02/2010 19:35

I had one very long labour and one very short and fast labour, neither time had any BH

victoriascrumptious · 23/02/2010 19:35

Thank you ILTMIMI. I don't know, my bump seems pretty hard most of the time

Nope, none,

magnummum · 15/03/2010 19:58

I didn't have BH with either my singleton or twin labour. Early, fast and natural both times. Good luck.

girlsyearapart · 15/03/2010 20:19

nope. thought I was with dd1 but it was labour starting..(born on her due date couldn't possibly be having baby on actual due date...)

dd2 no twinges/pains/anything until waters broke without warning at 38 wks and she was born 3 hours later.

kitcat1977 · 15/03/2010 20:19

No BH that i was aware of and DD arrived 6 days early.

suwoo · 15/03/2010 20:30

I didn't have any with DC1 and I finally had her 10 days late on the day I was to be induced.

Good luck
