Length of cs section scar?

What are the factors affecting how long youyr scar ends up?

I had a crash cs under GA 6 months ago. My sister had an EMCS under spinal 3 months ago. My baby was a petite 7lb6oz, hers was nigh on 9lbs with a huge head.

My scar is about 16cm long and curves upwards into a smile and is still quite pink although it is narrow.

My sister's is about 10 cm long and straight and much less pink than mine.

How does that work?? I can't even imagine how they managed to get her DS out of that diddy incision...

All I can think of is that because yours was a crash section, it was a case of get baby out now. Whereas your sisters Caesarean birth was not done in the same urgency.

When you have a baby vaginally your baby's lunges are squeezed by your birth canal, this clears out the mucous.

In a Caesarean birth they try to emulate this by birthing your baby through a tight opening.

I'm guessing because of the nature of a crash section they did not have time to do this. Speed (and more space) was required.

Hope that helps

Hi, I also had crash c-section under GA, my scar sounds exactly like yours...long + smiley!!! I think for speed reasons they are not very neat.

Also, in the rush, my little one got sliced through her head by the surgeon too (about 2 inch scar) - nothing serious, we were just happy to have her there.

Yep, it's about speed. If they've got the time they try to make it small and neat.

My section was elective and i can't see it now as its faded so much, although i have a small bump at each end., i can only remember from ages ago DH measured it around 3 months after, was around 6-7 inches.
my son was 7lb10oz had a big head and had apagar score of 9 then 10.

it is about speed in an emergency section, so i guess thats why yours is slighty longer, but don't worry it will fade to nothing eventually!

Just wondering now whether the longer cut contributed to her breathing difficulties at birth...
