39w. Trying to avoid another cx. MW today tried to sweep-says my cervix is posterior, soft but not soft at the OS. No dilation. Also baby quite high. Has it been known for this to change quicky? Or am I likely to go way overdue?

I recently googled this as my MW tried to sweep me on tuesday (40+5) and said she couldn't reach it as it was too far posterior. From what I've read it can change at any moment, however I am booked in to be induced on Sunday (40+12). I will watch this thread with interest to see if anyone has any experiences as on another forum one lady was advised that as her cervix was too posterior she couldn't be induced and would probably end up with a c section, mine didn't mention anything like that to me though.....

StealthPolarBear · 18/02/2010 16:19

They struggled to find my cervix for a sweep as it was too high and tilted back, had to get someone with longer fingers . This was at 40+6. DD was born less than 4 hours later.

Lulumama · 18/02/2010 16:19

i was pretty much the same at 39 + 4 and delivered 3 days later, spontaneous labour and it was a VBAc too

have you sceduled a c.s ?

sex can help to ripen the cervix

is this the trust that said you should be given a section at 39 weeks?

2nd babies often don't engage until labour starts

stressheaderic · 18/02/2010 18:09

I was 'unfavourable' on Monday, cervix was high and not dilated.
Went back today, cervix forward, soft and 2cm dilated. 38+6 today.
Hoping to get there myself and avoid booked induction on Monday...

Average human gestation is 38-42 weeks. That means anything up to 42 weeks counts as normal and you are certainly not overdue until after 42 weeks.

victoriascrumptious · 18/02/2010 19:25

indigobarbie: Good luck x

StealthPolarBear That is just what I needed to hear. Ive had quite a tearful day today as I was sure i'd be a little favourable as ive had some (mild) backpain and some dragging feelings. felt really disheartened to be told nothing had changed since last week.

Lulumama: No I havent scheduled a CS. I'm refusing to be drawn into that as yet. Yes it's the same trust as discussed before. However each consultant or midwife I see says something different. Today the MW said that as my blood pressure wasnt going up there was no reason in her opinion that I couldnt go to 42 weeks. I am cheered up by hearing about your VBAC

Stressheaderic-I am so glad for you, i'm sure you will do it. Please keep us updated in birth announcements when it happens

Smilehomebirth: I know, this is a VBAC from which I had already been told that the consultants would be pushing me into an early induction/cx due to possible bp probs. BP probs havent occured yet though (fingers crossed)

I was refused a sweep at 40+2 as baby was too high - I had him at 40+5 after a 12-hour labour. First baby too.

I felt SO disappointed when the MW refused me that sweep!

MumNWLondon · 18/02/2010 19:45

you aren't even at your due date... can try and defer CS until after 41 weeks?

Lulumama · 18/02/2010 19:48

i thikn it is really positive that you have been told you can go to 42 weeks. you can request expectant management , and schedule a c.s for 42 weeks or discuss induction, some trusts do induce VBACs but there are arguments for and against

victoriascrumptious · 18/02/2010 19:49

Yes MumNW, all this fuss is because with DD1 I had normal blood pressure right until the last week when it suddenly and unexpectedly shot up to a dangerous level. It wasnt preclampsia though.

Just trying to avoid a repeat.

So I went to see the Consultant today. He says that my cervix is 1cm thick and i'm "not particularly" posterior adding that he "could find it alright" (find my cervix). He still couldnt sweep though.

He has booked me an induction slot for 41weeks with one go of one of those hormone on a string things. Not sure if I will turn up for the induction at this stage. Worried it will quicky slide into a shower of intervention and result in a CX.

He also says that risk of stillbirth rises for VBAC women who go over term-hence me agreeing to him setting dates at the time. Never heard of this stillbirth thing before-has anyone else?
