Bonjour all you other French-living English gals... or even you UK-living French gals!! I hope you can help.

I've got my second "monitoring" appointment tomorrow with my doctor & sage-femme (French EDD is 24th Feb) & was wondering how on earth I can find out if I can have a sweep?

I REALLY don't want to be artificially induced, and although I'm attacking the pineapple, my DH, & going on daily walks, this baby seems quite happy to take things slow!

My friends in the UK have avoided being induced by having sweeps, so I thought I'd like to try the same, especially given that here in France you're only allowed over your EDD by a couple of days before they start pumping you with hormones.

But my French doesn't reach that far!

Please help!!

Merci beaucoup...

Hello - I had a google, because I was interested to know myself (I'm in Belgium, not due for a while though) and came upon this. Mumsnet is great, non?

Hi sayanything...

That's great!! "Decollement des membranes" sounds like just the phrase I was looking for! I will try it out in my best French accent tomorrow....

I did google myself but obviously didn't use the right search words, so thanks so much for the tip!

Goodluck with the rest of your pregnancy in Belgium!

Don't get them to do a sweep if you cervix is not favourable....it will not help and it will hurt.

Don't know the french for that!

Also recommending induction after 2 says overdue is ridiculous. You can always refuse.
