Trapped wind after c-section?

BarbaMamma · 14/02/2010 20:31

I had a c-section 10 days ago and am really suffering with what I think is trapped wind. It is so painful I'm bent over double sometimes, and I don't know how to get rid of it. Any experiences very welcome.

After my 3rd c-section I had this which manifested itself as a horrid pain in my shoulder.

I drank a lot of peppermint tea and that seemed to help.

Sympathy though - it was extremely painful.

I had this after my c section, it did clear but took a couple of weeks, peppermint oil capsules helped though!

brightredballoon · 14/02/2010 21:48

yes you can buy Japanese peppermint oil from Holland and Barrett. The midwife gave me some of this in a cup of hot water - it was like nectar I can tell you and worked very quickly.

BarbaMamma · 14/02/2010 22:08

Oh that sounds good - thanks. I had no faith in peppermint and was planning to buy windeze tomorrow, but a few cups of mega-strong peppermint tea and a hot bath seems to have helped a bit at least. I had no idea trapped wind could mean such agony!

it's AWFUL, isn't it? absolutely the most painful part of my cs, funnily enough. agree about the peppermint working, but also if you can bear to position yourself so that your bottom is higher than your head (so, like, on your knees on the bed and then put yout head down on the pillow, but don't stress your stitches) and it encourages the wind to come out.
my sympathies AND my congratulations.

Are you on iron tablets by any chance?

BarbaMamma · 14/02/2010 22:39

No, not on iron tablets - does that cause it? Thanks for the congrats Aitch - wind is a small price to pay for a beautiful baby but MAN it hurts.

Iron did bad things to me after my cs... just a stab in the dark

Hope you feel better soon and congratulations

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 14/02/2010 22:44

it's appallingly painful, i totally agree. peppermint oil in hot water really does the trick, and ime (one lap, one cs) it doesn't last longer than 48 hours.

Bring on the uncontrollable farting! (after my Holland and Barrett visit)

My sympathies - trapped wind was dreadful after my section, especially the referred pain into my shoulder blades - ouch! Peppermint tea was the trick - mws in my hospital gave you peppermint oil in hot water as standard after a section.

Hope it works for you

witchwithallthetrimmings · 15/02/2010 09:21

with both mine my tummy got noticeably smaller with each fart; reminded me of that episode of the young ones where vyvian thinks he is pregnant and is it just one big fart

BarbaMamma · 15/02/2010 17:46

Gi=ot peppermint oil and Deflatine and yes! have started deflating!

Hoping this is what's causing my pains. 21 days post cs and pain in lower right hand side of back. Somehow feels like a fart would fix it.

sandcastles · 20/02/2010 05:08

I found having my back rubbed helped mine, as well as the peppermint caps.

MrsMc82 · 21/02/2010 06:06

Am same as skiddodle, a few weeks after section.
been in agony all night with pain between shoulders and too in ribs as well as in lower back and been farting too but just doesn't seem to have shifted it.... Going to holland and barrat as soon as opens.... !!

OhFuck · 21/02/2010 07:21

Aitch's tip to get down on your hand and knees and push your chest as low as you can to the floor really, really helps. I alternate that with lying on my right hand side when I get bad wind (unfortunately for me it's not just something I got after my section, it has happened in both pregnancies, and any time I eat white bread!).

I've been brought close to tears by the pain before now - absolutely excruciating. Sympathies!

illuminasam · 22/02/2010 12:56

Peppermint oil capsules are what worked for me.

With the added bonus of minty burps!
