I was back in hospital 6 days post delivery to get checked out following a sudden heavy bleed with big clots (day 2 I passed a clot the size of a grapefruit which freaked me out more than anything!). They sent me home with some antibiotics in case there was any infection and told me to keep an eye on the bleeding. On day 10 I had an ultrasound to see if there was any retained product, but the doctor said the scan was very difficult to interpret & she wasn't sure if there was anything there apart from blood, so they would leave things alone now (i.e not go through with D&C). So, I was glad about that, but on later reading my notes she has commented that the result of the scan was 'consistent with retained product'. Now I am really worried that there is still something there that is going to start falling out of me at some point. i am on day 17 now and my bleeding has been fairly light since day 6, but what if that's because it's all clotting up again inside?
Does anyone have any experience of this? How long does it go on for? When can I be considered to be 'out of the woods'?
