34 weeks, gush of fluid

Hello,

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and have just had a gush of clear fluid in my knickers. Nothing huge, but enough that I needed to get changed, and to cause my husband to ask if I had peed my pants (!) which I definitely hadn't, and as I said the fluid was clear.

Anyone know if this is normal? Should I call the midwife?

Thanks!

Sounds gross, but have you sniffed your pants ? If it is amniotic fluid, then it sort of smells sweet, and not like wee.

If you aren't certain, then call the delivery suite - they will probably ask you to come in

this happened to me in bed just over 6 years ago and 24 hrs later ds1 was born at 34+4 wks

you might have peed your pants but it very definitely could have been your waters leaking - a simple examination etc can check this out so you need to call your MW as if your waters have gone your baby could be at risk of infection

call the midwife, sniff knickers and take them with you if you go in - all gross but entirely necessary

Good luck x

I had this at 39 weeks and it was the hind waters going,so a slow puncture rather than a big gush.I would get it checked asap.

eeek!

ok, will sniff the knickers (mmm nice!) and call the delivery suite, but have my fingers well n truly crossed that this isn't going to amount to anything!

I had this very early on with dd (20 weeks I think). Was sure I hadn't peed my pants, it didn't smell of wee either, but got checked out and cervix was tightly closed, so I obviously had and she went full term.

bit early for this perhaps, but....the smell was...sweet (made husband verify this much to his delight!), so of course, panicked, called the midwife and went in to the hospital for a check up.

Baby fine, and no further fluid. Doc said it could have been simply that we have more fluid generally when pregnant, and it had gathered before gushing. Nice.

Anyway, all's well, and at the very least the hospital bag's now packed and ready!

Glad to hear that all is well. Always worth getting these things checked out though !
