Early baby first time, experience on #2?

Would love to know anyone's experience subsequent to a premature birth. My son was born at 35 weeks, reasons unknown, and I'm trying to understand how likely this is to happen again. I have a good friend who was also 35 weeks and 26 with #2. Anyone else have any input here? Doctors sure don't. Thanks.

Hi oremstango,

My DS was born at 36 weeks, also reasons unknown and we'd like another so I'll be watching this thread with interest. My personal suspicion for the culprit is a urine infection as I'd had 2 during my pregnancy and that can be a cause of PROM.

1st born before 30weeks-reason unknown.
2nd at 37weeks.

Although you are told that you are more likely to have a prem when it has happened once, I can´t help thinking that unless the reasons are known, then your odds of it happening again are no more than they were the first time iyswim.

It never occurred to me not to have another in case it happened again.

Hi,
I'll also be watching this thread. 34 weeks with number one (premature rupture of membranes for reasons unknown) and currently 29 weeks with number two.
I am under consultant care and have been offered additional tests (particularly infection tests as they suspect this could be why my waters broke last time). I've also been offered steroid injections at 32 weeks in case of early delivery.
Ultimately there's nowt I can do about it so am trying to chill out - though would dearly love to carry to term and not have baby whisked away from me after birth

2 weeks early.
2 weeks late
4 weeks early.

Pre eclampsia with 1 and 3, just high BP with 2.

dd 32 weeks after prom at 30

ds 27 weeks after prom at 22.

I have an incompetant cervix after lletz treatment.

The quoted stat for repert prems is 20%.

Thanks all. Infection is the most likely cause for me too but strange as I would have thought with all the urine tests this would be spotted. Saw a junior doctor on this recently who referred me for a 3rd scan as a result. The more I thought about this, the more I think what a waste of time as this has nothing to do with why ds was early nor do I have an underlying growth/low birth weight issue. The feedback on what your consultants do is helpful.

DD born at 36 weeks
DS born at 34+4

17 months between them and no apparent reason.

verylittlecarrot · 03/02/2010 20:13

dd born 37 weeks, PROM, no real reason (although technically not prem)
still awaiting no 2 at 40+1

sarahsyrup · 03/02/2010 21:21

ds 37 weeks, PROM, no reason. Awaiting #2, currently 38 weeks, verylittlecarrot; it isn't very amusing is it, I presumed (stupidly) that I'd have another early, now I feel like I'm over due, but I'm not even near my real due date - what a mind bender...

MummyMellie · 03/02/2010 23:21

Another finger tapper here - DS born at 35 weeks, now 38 weeks with #2, been ready for AGES!

KayloHalo · 04/02/2010 10:07

dd born @ 35wks
ds born @ 39+6wks!!!

currently pg with dc3. Been told to expect an early baby (as they told me with ds ) I'm not entirely convinced...
