4 weeks after c section...

just after some quick answers to stop me obsessing thinking about this.

I had a c section 4 weeks ago and have been taking it easy, but decided to do a bit of housework yesterday. This involved going up and down the stairs slowly and carefully while carrying some of DD's toys (didnt lift anything heavy) and also sitting on the floor tidying more of DD's rubbish toys, getting up and down a few times from there. I didn't feel pain at the time and thought i was being very careful but last night i was in pain I had a burning pain in my scar and around it. It felt quite stingy and was on and off not constant. Today is pretty much the same, burning/stinging pain around scar and just above and below. Feels really quite sore as well as the muscles above the scar and in my back/sides.

The scar has healed nicely, just a thin pinky red line now. No bleeding or anything. The scar wont open up 4 weeks later will it?? This is my worry and im obsessing over it now (have health anxiety)

It wont open after 4 weeks will it? I just over did it a bit didnt i?
If you had a c section what were you doing 4 weeks after? I thought i would be ok to tidy up a bit!

Thanks for any replies.

I think you probably just overdid it a bit, though am no medic.

Remember, there's a lot of internal healing to do, too so take it easy. You can also get pain from things called adhesions (where one layer of stictches has stuck to another, I think) which is quite normal.

I would not have been tidying up four weeks after, but then I had lots of internal bruising due to nature of my c-section.

You have overdone it, it will be the internal scarring that has taken a bashing.... your body knows best, slow down!!!

bowbluebell · 31/01/2010 19:06

I agree, sounds to me like you overdid it a little. Now you need to slow down.

After four weeks I was lifting a pram in and out of the car boot, carrying baby in A car seat up three flights of stairs and generally taking things not easy enough. My wound didn't open up, but I did get a little infection (no big deal, but meant being on antibiotics). Next time, I'm going to take it much easier (I hope, with a toddler around!). It's easy to forget that the outside is the first part to heal.

Take care, and let everyone else do the tidying up for once!

I was guilty of doing the same myself 4 weeks after my C section with my second baby. And had the same sort of aches and pains.

I know it's hard to rest properly like the leaflets tell you to, when you have more than one child, but try not to over do it

Obviously if it gets worse, consult your GP or someone though x

My scar leaked/bled after nearly 6 weeks. You need to rest. That means no picking up stuff or getting up and down off the floor.

OMG! Sorry, but I'm quite shocked at the number of you who felt in pain 4 weeks after a CS.

With both of mine (14 months apart and the last one being 6 months ago), I was absolutely perfect - without pain - at 4 weeks.

And, with DD (No. 2) I had been looking after her and my DS (who was then 14Mo) alone for about 3 weeks.

This is absolutely NOT a 'ooh, arent I great' but I am genuinely shocked... my reaction to OP would be to go back to Dr. Honestly it would have been (sorry, OP, don't want to scare you) but having read the other replies, I think you need to rest and wait till you feel a bit stronger.

Thanks for replying!

I know i overdid it and am definately going back to resting now! I feel better after reading your posts thanks for sharing. I guess if your scar didnt open bowbluebell after all you did at 4 weeks then mine should be ok I have been really really careful and just couldn't stand sitting around watching things go to pot any longer (DH being a bit rubbish and not helping much )

Harimo-i have been pretty much without pain, no painkillers for about a week now but then after getting up and doing housework i have pain again..i rested all last night and today so i just hope it feels better in the morning.
