38 weeks and stabbing pains in fanjo??

Hi all im 38 weeks today with no 2 and am booked in for a c-section a week on monday.

Ive been getting lots of what i only assume have been BH and lower back pain for a week now, but today ive been getting lots of what i can only discribe as sharp pains like being stabbed from the inside down through my ladys bits that take my breath away.

I briefly remember getting something very similar the week before DS1 was born, but not as bad.

Can anyone shed any light on these pains??

erm, no light shedding here, only that I had that too - babies head pressing on some very sensitive lady bits perhaps?

No idea sorry, but i had them and have heard them described as knitting needles up the fanjo

Good luck for c section

I'm 36 weeks and getting this, feels like the baby is bungee jumping on my cervix, which I assume is close to what it is Much sympathy, it's very painful!

didsnbump · 30/01/2010 20:48

Anyone know if they are linked to labour at all, just concerned im not gonna make it to my c-section??

Is most likely related to baby pressing on nerves as it becomes lower. Not a sign of labour in itself.

Meeely3 · 30/01/2010 20:51

have a vague memory that i had these pains for weeks before DS3 arrived, so don't panic too much....

BabyGiraffes · 30/01/2010 20:53

Hi, 38+3 and have the same but can't remember it with dd1. It does feel like the baby is testing which way is the exit and I don't like it one bit... No idea if it is linked to going into labour but will tell you if it does with me! Is your baby engaged at all? Mine isn't and seems to just bounce down onto the cervix now and then - that's how I explain the stabbing pain to myself.

didsnbump · 30/01/2010 20:59

He wasnt engaged when last checked but that was 2 weeks ago.

I just remember getting them last time after i had a show which i got a week before labour kicked off but never really knew if they had been part if the build up.

I'm 37+4 and also get this, especially today.

DS was 3/5 engaged yesterday but I think he has gone lower by the position of his upper body on my bump.

I can't say if it is part of labour but I wish it is as I have been having mild contractions for the last 2 days.

Good luck

i had this too at times with last baby - though if you are having anything that might be a UTI (smelly dark cloudy wee, pain weeing) then get that checked out.

head engaging can be very owie i found.

flussymummy · 30/01/2010 23:51

I'm 36+3 and having similar- was just wondering the same myself! Head's engaged apparently. This is DD2 but had to be induced at 42 weeks last time so have no idea what the start of labour feels like!

tartyhighheels · 31/01/2010 00:16

I had this too from about 36 weeks but it wasn't about being in labour for me, that said, the pain really took my breath away at the time. My 3 labours have all started differently, first from nothing to having a baby, second really just started quickly with a clunking sensation and then it all started happening and the third with a niggly tummy twinge about every 5 mins... so what the hell do I know? Painful fanjo's are not nice but big pains like that tend to be nervy in origin so I think just the baby rearranging itself.
