Oh and what does ROP mean

And I am sure the last timeI went she wrote 3/5 engaged

4/5 palpable means she could still feel 4/5 of it - so only 1/5 engaged ... ie way to go yet! ROP means "right occiput posterior" - so the baby is on the right hand side of your uterus facing forwards, with its back closest to your back, if that makes sense. crazy jargon

mummynumnum · 29/01/2010 16:58

Boo! And there was me thinking it was ready to pop out.

I'd wait til it was anterior before I decided it wanted out myself! You don't want a back to back labour if you can avoid it. Anyway sounds like you have some leeway so good luck!

belgo · 29/01/2010 19:00

Don't worry about your baby being posterior at this moment, the chances are high it will turn before or during labour, in particular if you are active during labour this will help the baby get into a good position.

BabyGiraffes · 29/01/2010 19:05

Erm I understood it the other way round. Told I was 1/5 engaged, that is, midwife could feel 4/5 of the head still bobbing around and nowhere near engaged...

BabyGiraffes · 29/01/2010 19:06

no, hang on, that's the same then, isn't it??

BabyGiraffes · 29/01/2010 19:07

Oh, and what's cephalic by the way?

raindroprhyme · 29/01/2010 19:07

4/5 is nearly there only 1/5 to go.

mummynumnum · 29/01/2010 19:29

Last time I went was 3/5 palpable and now 4/5 which makes me think she was implying
that it had moved one more 5th down. V
confused and dont know why did nit
ask in there. May have to dig out my miriam Stoppard book.

4/5 palpable means they can still feel 4/5ths..... 1/5th is engaged..... i hadit on mine and asked same.... ROP measn right occiput posterior and is to do with babys position.... bst google that cos i am not good at explaining x

sparklycheerymummy · 29/01/2010 21:06

ooohhh just read someone else has amswered it before me!

EccentricaGallumbits · 29/01/2010 21:12

Cephalic = head down. and heads can bob in and out a bit which is why you can be 2/5 engaged or 3/5 palpable one week and 1/5 engaged or 4/5 plapable the next.

why we can't write in english i don't bloody know.
in fact am writing an essay on that very subject at the mo.

why do we not say 'head down' rather than creating a fake sort of mystique by talking pseudo latin and referring to 'cephalic' as if it makes any difference.

and who knows what lochia rubra or lochia serosa means? why not just ask the woman what colour her vaginal loss is?

tis all bollocks i tell you. designed to keep the little lady in the dark so she doesn't have to worry her little head about things she doesn't need to know so we, the terribly important, intelligent, professionals can talk about her without her knowing what we are on about and keep her in the dark so we are in control.
