Booked for ELCS very close to EDD

Hi

I had an EMCS with DD1 (now 4yo) and decided tomopt for an eLCS for this pg. I'm now 31+2 weeks.

I was given a date for my ELCS but the first 'slot' after 39 weeks is 39+3. I'm worried that I may not get to that point in the pg and end up going into labour early in which case they said that they would still do a cs, but obviously less planned! They weren't willing to try and fit me in before 39 weeks despite my asking!

I wanted this ELCS to give me peace of mind after the stress of the EMCS last time, but I don't feel that I really have that with it being so close to my EDD. I don't think there's much I can do to change the situation, but just wondered if anyone else is n the same boat?

Thanks

Was your first baby early? Or do you have any other reason to think this baby will come early?

My hospital wont book you in for an elective before 39 weeks so 39+3 is still quite close to the 39wk mark (mine is booked for 39+2).

My friend had this just before Christmas, she went into labour before C section date and it was fine, she was scheduled into the operating theatre in plenty of time. It is the same operation even if it's different timing.

Good luck!

I have just had DD2, she was due 31/12/09 and i was booked in for a section on that date! I thought she was coming early and had to go and be checked over but she waited for her date Good luck, im sure you will be fine and baby will hang on. If not they will just do it when you go in!

You can't control it completely as labour could begin at 37 weeks, say, and that would be too early for CS. I have been told I will be offered a date between 38 and 39 weeks, but I would rather leave it as late as possible, so that little one is ready to be born.

You're lucky they have given you a date already, this early. I am 36 weeks tomorrow and I have had two very difficult vaginal births and as a result am suffering with depression and panic attacks at the sheer thought of labour with this baby.

I have had to beg for a section, even though with my first I had to have a ventouse, and an episiotomy and my daughters lung collapsed and with my son I had to have again a ventouse and an episiotomy, they still made me beg for a section and they still now to this day havent agreed to it, they just said that if I still feel this strongly when I see them at 38wks that they will "most probably" book me in for a section at 39weeks, but they wont give me a date until then so I'm amazed you have already been booked in!

Must depend on the hospital, I am at North Staffordshire hospital and its a bloody nightmare getting an elective section there even though I am high risk due to previous births and also a heart murmur and a hernia op that I had four years ago when my son was one.

Good luck with it all anyway.

Last year when my planned csec due to be booked at 39 weeks- the theatre was going to be closed for an audit- so I was made to have my planned c-sec booked for 40+3 and there was no way they were going to do it at 38 weeks. Luckily I went overdue and had the c-section as planned. Just think that you will definately have your baby by that certain date if not before. Its a little worrying to know that the baby could come before that date- but in my honest opinion my emergency c-section was far easier to recover from and was less painful as your body is geared up and in labour.

I have my cs date for 38+2 weeks, which I feel is too early as my other have all been 42 weeks! I was given this date at 16 weeks as well.

So this baby is going to be a month earlier than I normally carry for!

Thanks for all of your experiences.

I saw mw today and told her of my fear, but she just said if I go into labour before my planned date, just to ring and they'll reschedule, so I can't ask for more really!

Think I need to stop worrying and try to enjoy the last few weeks as mummy of one!
