Talk to me about C section scars

So I had my first C section 4 months ago. The scar is healing beautifully despite it being a very EMCS, for which I am thankful. The area above the scar has been numb since the section, but the area of numbness has gradually shrunk back to the inch or so it is now. I've been getting tingling in the scar for the last few weeks. It doesn't look inflamed, so I'm wondering if it's maybe the nerves knitting together again. What do you think?

If you've only got an inch of numbness, it sounds as if you are healing pretty well. I've got more than that and I had my CS a year ago! I get tingling off and on and like you, assume it's healing tissue. Perhaps just ask your GP to have a quick look at it if you are concerned.

Sounds pretty similar to my EMCS recovery. The tingling and numbness went eventually. Tingling lasted a few weeks, numbness took longer to go.

I had an ELCS this time and just have the tingling...

When I say an inch, I mean an inch above, not in length. It looks as though it's healing well- it's even going a little pale right in the centre of the incision. I tell you, that surgeon was a flipping genius. She must have the steadiest hands ever, very focused, to have achieved that while the baby thrashed around underneath...

My scar healed well after EMCS. Only thing was they didn't sew me up straight and afterwards you could see my brown verticle line stop at the scar and then contine on below about an inch to the side. I still fell my tummy looks lopsided nearly 8 yrs on!

Within a few weeks of my 1st CS (emergency) I had no numbness at all just a nice neat scar. After 2nd CS (elective) though I was very numb and still have altered sensation and large area of complete numbness from my navel down to the scar

I had my 3rd c-section just over 2 years ago and it is all still very numb.

Claire2009 · 21/01/2010 00:24

I had my 2nd section 3yrs ago in April, not numb nor tingly, am sure it was at one stage but perfectly normal now, can barely see the scar too.

Does anybody have any tips about how to recover stomach muscles? Anybody tried Pilates post c section?

I've done a bit and loved it! Too early to tell if it'll fix the wobble though!

10 years after emergency cs, i still have areas of numbness

MarineIguana · 22/01/2010 10:14

I still have a vaguely numb area just above too, but it doesn't bother me. I found walking everywhere as much as possible was a good way to get my stomach back to normal, and it means you can exercise while getting the baby out and about rather than having to make time for gym and classes etc.
