Stoke Mandeville Hospital Warning

Nothing to do with facilities as I have been denied the chance to find out for myself.

I was refered by my GP to Stoke Mandeville Hospital by letter on 29/10/09. I confirmed with Stoke Mandeville Hospital that we were on their system at the beginning of December (and was told that it is normal practice to not recieve a letter confirming this). This was our hospital of choice.

I am now 41 weeks pregnant and have just been informed that we won't be allowed to have our baby there as they don't have us on their system. I cannot begin to understand why they would lie to us but they have.

So, if you are expecting to have your baby at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and it might not be you first or only choice of Hospital, I suggest you speak to them IMMEDIATELY to check you are on their system. According to my community midwife, SMH will not be accepting anyone from outside their area after today.

I am extremely angry at how poorly we have been treated but there is nothing I can do about it. I would like to make sure that this doesn't not happen to other women. I will also be putting in an offical complaint to SMH.

chicane! How dreadful. Hope you manage to find somewhere else to give birth, poor you - hardly the kind of stress you need at the moment is it. Maybe some other lovely MNers can help you out with some recommendations for places near Stoke Mandeville? x

Am peed off on your behalf. BUT my understanding is that they cannot turn away a woman in labour? So you could just show up anyway

Whereabouts are you? I can highly recommend Wexham Park in Slough.

That's awful, poor you.

I'll be going to Milton Keynes General instead. I have nothing against MK just very angry at being messed around and lied to (by someone from SMH at some point) so late in my pregnancy.

Yes, I could just turn up in labour but I need labout to start for that to be a possibility! I'm booked in to be induced at MK this week. Come on, baby!
