Cramping after long walk-could this be signs of early labour?

Hi everyone,

I'm 40+2 days with my second baby. The head has been fully engaged now for 2wks. My bump is as far south as its going to get. I've been playing the waiting game now and I'm fed up! I decided to go shopping and walk around all day today hoping that would kickstart it into gear. Since I've been home I've been getting period like cramps quite alot. They don't feel like contractions but they are more constant than they have been before. My back is a little sore too. Could this be the start of early labour?

With my first pregnancy (baby came day b/f due date), my waters broke first and b/c it was a high water break it took ages b/f the contractions came on. So basically, I'm worried I won't read the signs if these cramps are early signs of labour. Has anyone experienced the same thing? Any advice would be great! Thanks for listening! I'm just anxious I guess and ready for baby to come.

Hi there,

Backache and cramping were def early labour signs with me for my 2nd bub.She is 3 weeks now and up doing the nightfeed, ah the joys.I had really bad backache and period type pain for two days prior to her arrival ,then on the day she arrived ,had been for 40wk check at hospital in morning ,also had sweep done, was told i was 3cm .Thought they were more warm ups so went shopping . 1.00 buying xmas turkry,3.41 baby arrived, bit of a dash and hubby just made the birth.Fingers crossed things are starting for you ,good luck :- )

Thanks TrixieB. Today is round two of these period pains. I'm also getting sharp ones once in a while. My hubby and I tried some together time this morn hoping that would work. I'm off shopping today to get moving and hoping that would help too. I do feel like the cramps are constant now and maybe a lil bit stronger than last night. They don't seem to lighten up much either. Maybe thats a good sign. Just hope I don't burst in front of the workers of Tesco haha. But in all honesty, I'm just ready to get things moving so I wouldn't be THAT mortified ( well, maybe I would lol).

How about having sex with your dh? You could also try some nipple stimulation.

Good luck

I'm due tomorrow, and occasionally getting similar...Reversing into a wall seemed to make them stronger for a while!

Could well be - I walked around 6 miles a few days before DS2 came (over a week early) and had back ache and abit cramping after that - and a show. Then two days later I walked around 5 miles and hoicked my toddler about lots - gave birth that night. Good luck.

Mommie Meggie - sounds like it could be early labour but this could go on for days (like it did with my 2) before properly getting going so try to ignore them.

I wouldn't worry whether they are early cramps or not - you'll soon know when they turn into real ones!!

And - don't worry too much about your waters going - I read that it is actually more unusual for your waters to go before you are in proper established labour (Films have got a lot to answer for!). My first was born with the waters intact and with my 2nd the waters went 2 pushes before she was born!

Just chill and wait for things to take their course - don't understand the hurry!!

Hi,

Well, second day walking around the shops and felt really bad cramping coming on. My back ached like mad! Then when i got home, after resting for a bit, nothing! This morn I got up and the cramps have gone, but I know they will be back soon. I must have overdone it walking so much. I've eaten pineapple last night and I have spent "quality time" with the hubby. Just doesn't seem to work!

I'm just getting frustrated now b/c my Mom from the states has flown over to help and no baby That and the fact my poor hubby works two hours away in the week and if I go, he has to travel home to make it. I think this is the worst part of being pregnant....waiting.
