Why no Clary Sage oil with Gas & Air?

Just read in one of the MN guides that you shouldn't use clary sage oil during labour if you are having gas and air, any ideas why not? Haven't seen this anywhere else and was planning to use oils and G&A during labour.

I'm not a qualified aromatherapist but I think clary sage has some sedative qualities to it.

There was an interesting thread about Clary Sage - I'll find it for you, hang on...

OMG, I am addicted to the Radox stress relief bubble bath, which has clary sage.... I soak up the sponge in the bath, wring it out then press it over my nose and mouth and inhale..... its lovely !

I'm taking with me when the time comes.... G&A is horrid.

Some maternity/midwifery units have midwives trained in aromatherapy or can refer you to someone in the know. I was refered to a reflexologist that was also head of midwifery with my Ds and if anyone would know, they would.
Actually, thinking about it; she did recommend I use Clary Sage in my bath, but she never mentioned anything about using/not using during labour with G&A.

Actually the stress relief one is Rosemary I think, the muscle soak is Clary sage.... ?

I have both.... lovely to inhale though.

I had clary sage oil in labour with dd1, didn't help at all I'm afraid, but I feel like I will vomit if I ever smell it again....

Well at least it doesn't sound like I am going to keel over if I use it. I had heard that it helped make contractions more productive, as well as being a bit of a pick me up etc, so I'll bung it in the bag and see if I cn bear it on the day. If not I can put it on the flannel and clamp it over DH's mouth and nose if things get too stressful!
