There is a good NHS alternative to the standard hospital fare which has recently been closed down in south london - the Albany Midwifery Practice.
It was real midwifery practised by dedicated midwives who offered their mothers their names and telephone numbers to see them through their pregnancies and birth.
There is a campaign to keep the model and spirit of the practice alive. I've been involved in writing about it and have blogged about my experience so far emmathejournalist.webs.com/apps/blog/
There will be a March in March 2010 in London[date to be confirmed] for all to join and there is a BBC programme on the campaign going out tomorrow [Tuesday 12 Jan].
If this tickles your interest, get involved, and I'll post up further details.
It's all for a very good cause...
