membrane sweep, bloody show.. does labour start soon?

Hello, quick question, had a sweep today and have had a 'show' since but no pains or anything. They want me in for an induction first thing in the morning, isn't that a bit soon? If I am going into labour anyway I'd prefer not to be induced unnecessarily..

Has anyone had a sweep and gone into labour quite quickly? Should I try to avoid induction?

Thanks

My labour started the same day, but I know with others, sometimes there is a show and then nothing for days.... How far overdue are you?

Lulumama · 08/01/2010 16:37

you don't have to be induced tomorrow. if things are favourable, things will start soon anywaay, and if they're not, the induction could take days. how many days over are you? is this your first>
you can often have a show due to the sweep, and nothing else

what did MW say about your cervix? are you good to go?

hobnob57 · 08/01/2010 16:46

I had 3 sweeps done: Mon, Tue & Thurs and had a big bloody show after the 1st one which continued in fits and starts over the week. I was refusing induction. Contractions (felt like strong BH at first) began on the Thurs night and continued, strong at night and more like BH during the day, for 3 nights. Eventually my waters went on the Sun evening and I had DD that night.

Good luck, whatever you decide. I had to have extra monitoring due to being over 42 weeks, but REALLY didn't want to be induced. I'm happy with that decision

Sorry yes I'm not massively overdue am 40+2 but have a ''poor obstetric history'' and the general consensus is baby is safer out than in.. was induced with DD and would prefer to not repeat the experience of being monitored the whole time and being at hospital much longer than if I were to go into labour at home.. I'd quite like to wait until the following day to give things more time to get going on their own

what does that mean? did you have issues that meant you had to be induced?> i.e pre eclampsia, diabetes, IUGR?

are there any reasons that this baby is better out than in? is your cervix ripe?

crumpette · 08/01/2010 17:13

I had bad pre-eclampsia and OC first time and IUGR.. this time baby seems fine, have mild pre-eclampsia and queried OC, feel fine and baby is fine, baby quite the opposite of growth-restricted . I think they are being cautious, which is good in a way, but I kind of would like to avoid intervention

they didn't mention my cervix.. I didn't ask [doh] all they said was that they had been able to do the sweep..

With ds I had a sweep on a wed morning- the same night I had a show that lasted all evening and the next day, then I went into labour on the Thu night/Fri morning and he was born that day.

With dd1 I had a sweep, then small show, then nothing. She was induced a week later.

With dd2 I had a sweep then absolutely nothing. She was induced a week later too

Lulumama · 08/01/2010 17:18

there might be something written in your notes?

if you really don;t want induction and you are making an informed decision, you can decline and for expectant management and anothr sweep next week? can you speak to a MW tonight>

crumpette · 08/01/2010 17:24

argh probably not lulumama, thanks for advice I will go and check notes (if I can read the writing ) I am meant to call the labour ward at something crazy like 6am anyway so will raise my queries then, still no contractions or anything so unlikely baby will arrive before that.. grrr.. thanks for help

if you need notes deciphering, you can post them here, usually someone is around who can explain.. and good luck whatever you decide
