Hi ladies,

I had my DD2 by elcs a week ago today, had lots of codeine which has bunged me right up Ive been taking lactulose and a almost "there" iykwim..tmi i know. But im now worrying about my scar! Does anyone know if straining on the loo can damage anything 7 days after? The pain from being constipated is just awful. And im so scared of my scar opening or internal stitches bursting!

Anyone reassure me about this?

Are you on iron tablets at all?

Oh jesus. The first poo I had after my DD was on day 5 and the scariest moment of my life. I even had to...um...squat and use my finger. You prob didn't need to know that but I thought it might make you feel better that you were not alone.
I think you may need to go and see your doc or up your dose of lactulose.
Poor you. I hope things move for you soon.

My first poo was awful- it took about a week after my C section. I held a clean sanitary towel over the actual scar as I did the poo, probably wasn't much use, but made me feel as if it helped to stop the stitches exploding! Can you up your lactulose? I took the max dose for 2 days running and that did the trick- oh and ate two cans of prunes! THis is even more TMI- my poo came out the texture of clay and blocked the toilet!

Agree with upping lactulose. Fairly sure it is difficult to OD on such a gentle product I drank a bucket load of fybrogel. That helped.

Omg...thanks for sharing your experiences thankgod im not alone
I remember this from my first section nearly 4 years ago but im sure i had my stitches in when i went so i felt a little bit better about it. I had the stitches out yesterday and so i feel like the scar could open at any time! I am swigging from the bottle of lactulose now desperate.

Im not taking iron tablets. It's all the codeine i think

Movicol is better, its a stool softener and more gentle. The midwifes wouldn't let me have it after my 1st cs as I was bf. I was only allowed lactulose, which (TMI coming up) didn't soften it up, just made me go constantly, about 10 times a day and I ended up with a bad tear and ouch. 3 years on it still hurts.

When I had my second cs I asked my GP for Movicol before I went to hospital and he happily gave it to me and said it was fine to bf.

maybebaby23 · 07/01/2010 20:36

ouch meglet 10 times a day!

So the scar won't open up or anything then? Or be damaged inside from straining? Im not talking sitting there for hours proper straining, just enough to go iykwim.

I doubt it would open up after 7 days. But straining isn't a good thing even if you haven't had an op! Hope you are feeling much better soon.
