Early Labour?

I know there are no guarentees, but please just humour me, will you?

Today i'm 37+5 and for the past week ten days i've not felt 'right' - can't get comfortable anywhere, just don't know what to do with myself. Having the occassional twinge, which has petered out.

Fast forward to today, and went out for a family meal with DP, little 'uns and the inlaws. I've eaten quite a big dinner, followed by pud, and dunno... could be that, but i'm really not sure.

I have a pain right across the top of my bump, quite sharp, very uncomfortable, and perios cramps along the bottom of bump, which seem to be quite strong one min, then ease the next. It also feels like i constantly need to poo, but went this morning, so unlikely to be that.

I's been like this for a good couple of hours now, and i don't know if this is the start of early labour or not - had emergency c-sec with my boys and i had a sweep with DD and went straight into contractions 2/3 mins apart, so i'm really not sure what early labour feels like.

If it is early labour then i need to get my childcare provision sorted - but that means getting my dad to come across the city, and i'm a bit reluctant to do that for a flase alarm - i don't know what to do!!!

Any thoughts or experiences?

Does sound like things are moving along though I'd wait awhile longer for sorting childcare.

With dd1 I was uncomfortable all night up amd down to wee pains like period pains. went swimming which didn;t help. In middle of row with DH over whether to go to hospital my waters broke so he won and we went. Took another 6 hours after that though.

Dd2 waters broke then contractions started to bit different.

How about a bath to see if that helps?

Is someone there to do dinner/bath/bed with the dcs?

mistletoekisses · 03/01/2010 17:47

Dee - I had this exact same scenario last night. I had a lovely (but fairly heavy and filling) brunch with DH. 5 hours later was in agony. Pains across bump, waves of nausea. Could not get comfortable.

I was wondering whether it was a sign of things starting. I took a bath to try and help/ relax and was straight to bed. Felt shattered. A good nights sleep later, I felt 100% again. No pains, no nausea.

I honestly think my eyes were bigger than my stomach at brunch and it sort of pushed that whole area over the edge so to speak.
But it could be different with you - you never know!

rubyslippers · 03/01/2010 17:52

hmmm - could be indigestion

or baby moving around (is the head engaged yet)

if your contractions kick off, then i would sort childcare but not right this minute TBH

Thanks all - it seems to have settled down a bit again now. Still the occasional twinge, but nothing as servere as before.

I really hope this baby makes an apperance soon though, or they will induce me, which i can't say i'm looking forward to!!

How are things this morning?

Deemented · 04/01/2010 08:51

All quiet, seems to be - had a really rough night though - was up and down all night, not much sleep. Still the odd twinge but nothing like yesterday!

I've been like that on and off for the last 2 weeks. I'm still waiting for baby to come. I think its just the body preparing itself.

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 05/01/2010 10:49

Morning Dee, how are things now? I hope they have calmed down having looked out of the window... (or that you are safely in hospital already)

Deemented · 05/01/2010 13:43

Well as it happens, i've just had a bit of a show - not a lot, but i've a feeling that things may well be starting!!!

OOh, good job the snow has vanished then

Deemented · 05/01/2010 14:34

I know - but yet they still closed ds's school....

YUp, I got a text this morning saying DD's school was closing at 11.45. 'Luckily' DD1 is home with the pox anyway, but still.
Finding it highly amusing that it's all gone and the weather is bright and sunny now though!

girlsyearapart · 06/01/2010 09:13

Ooh exciting stuff Dee.

Yes was at waterloo station last night where tarains were running reduced due to severe weather FORECAST!

Deemented · 06/01/2010 14:28

I'm having an induction tomorrow.

Is that what you want? Good luck!

Deemented · 06/01/2010 15:27

A part of me says no - i wanted to do it 'my way' as much as possible, but i'm tired. I have SPD, PGP and a slipped disc, as well as a 5 year old and a 20 month old to run around after. I'm ready to meet my baby.

OP posts:
blondieminx · 06/01/2010 15:43

Don't feel you have failed in any way. You've made a positive choice to encourage bubba to come out and meet his/her siblings, and for you to hopefully get some respite from the SPD.

I wish you a lovely midwife and plenty of support for afterwards - hope your back improves soon and that the doctors do everything possible to get it sorted for you.

good luck

JackBauerisreadyforDay8 · 06/01/2010 17:37

Oh Dee, sometimes these things need a helping hand, but whatever happens you will feel so much better with 3 'outside' DC's I am sure.
Good luck! Is the birth centre still in S? I am off to M hospital on friday for some tests so if you were there I could bring you the latest goss

Deemented · 06/01/2010 19:50

Yes, still S. Am feeling a bit more relaxed about it all now.

good luck dee hope it all goes well.

Deemented · 07/01/2010 15:41

No birth announcement yet - they've sent me home as they decided they'd rather break my waters then use the gel/pessaries, but they couldn't reach to do it. Have to go back tomorrow at 3...
