I have it in my head that drinking Yakult after giving birth has a benefit but I cant remember what!!

Did anyone else see it a few months ago? Im sure it was in the papers or on the BBC.

I have googled it but cant find anything.

I dont drink it usually but rememeber thinking I must get some in ready for once baby has been born.

I had heard that drinking Yakult while pregnant and after birth could help you lose weight - could that be it?

Only if you have shares in Yakult...

here

GoldenSnitch · 03/01/2010 13:44

or here about them reducing allergies...?

Any alleged benefits of drinking yakult (and the rest) could be gained by eating live yogurt, which would be cheaper, and healthier as it wouldn't have the huge number of teaspoons of sugar that yakult (and the rest) have.

Isn't Yakult one of those 'health foods' that makes a large number of unsubstantiated claims? It's all marketing.

As blu says, save yourself money and eat some live yoghurt instead.

Im sure I read it can help you loose the weight now you have said it Goldensnitch.

I dont think I will bother!

Don't know if it's hormonal or what (the kilo upon kilo of lactulose/dulcoease/antibiotics/painkillers/dried fruit I stuffed down my throat in the days after the birth probably didn't help ), but I found my gut was all over the shop after I gave birth. It didn't really improve until I started having regular live yoghurt a couple of months down the line.

Even now I find I'm much more sensitive to changes in diet/hormonal changes in terms of how my gut reacts. Yet another way in which pregnancy ruined my body! DS is lucky he's cute

The good thing about Yakult is that you can hold your nose and down it in one shot instead of having to eat a pot of yucky live yoghurt.

Get some acidophilus capsules from Holland and Barratt instead. You can get a tub of about 200 (take one a day) for the same price as a week's supply of Yakult. Both contain the same thing.

Its good for irritable bowel syndrome supposedly. But if you have regular bowels then you won't need it so don't bother.
