how long does it take to get things started, is it likely to be a longer than natural or shorter than natural labour..

I am sooooooo excited I am going to be an aunty!!!

It can be quick or can take days, just like a naturally starting labour, so hold your horses for a bit!

oooh I was soo hoping that that would mean we would have a new member of the family today!!!

thankfully she is excited about it rather than annoyed.. she was due 10 days ago and her blood pressure is up.

No - I went in to be induced with DD1, and caught up with an NCT friend in the bed next to me in hospital who had started induction 2 days before! In the end we had babies 3 hours apart (and I couldn't get an epidural for hours as the anaesthetist was with her, grrr ). So it took her a total of 3+ days, and me about a day. Both C sections though in the end - quite likely with a first timer induction

She has become more openminded about how the baby is going to appear as the days have passed.

she is in London and has been told that c sections account for about 45% of births so although it isn't her preference she isn't going to beat herself up if that is what happens.

Sounds like a very healthy attitude. I went in expecting it to be all natural and beautiful. My goodness I was in for shock!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 29/12/2009 13:05

My friend was induced xmas eve - in pain until boxing day when she had an emergency CS at 5pm.

Induction isn't a good thing imo - but that would be a whole other thread.

Good luck to her though!

I agree with you TDWP, but it isn't my call and all of her family are in the medical profesion and are urging her to believe that the doctors never do anything for any reason other than the welfare of the baby.

I was induced on a Wednesday evening and gave birth on Thursday evening. I had texts every few hours from family members asking what was happening, and got very bored to begin with! There is a high chance that she will end up with a C-section, but I had a quick gas-and-air birth not that different from the natural birth I had hoped for, so it is possible.

We haven't heard anything yet//// I hope that means that things have kicked off - I think if they were sitting twiddling thumbs DB would be texting.

is now 10 hours since we last spoke...
I am just sending them as many good labour vibes as I can (and yet knowing that it will make no difference to anything)

she has been induced but nothing has happened yet. He has been sent home for the night.

Ah, that probably means it all happened last night then! That's what happened with me - DH sent home, then me in agony all flipping night and they would only call him to come back in at 6 the following morning

Hope you've had some good news by now....

laughalot · 30/12/2009 13:30
