Am just a few weeks away from my due date now, and am starting to get that panicky feeling about childbirth again!

Please tell me your fourth baby birth experiences so I have some idea what I have to look forward to! Thanks.

It was absolutely wonderful, would have gone through it all again the next day.

Only birth where I didn't ask/need/demand an epidural.

Just used tens & gas & air

All my 4 were induced.

I went from 8cm to delivered in 2 contractions didn't actually push tbh.

Copied from a 3rd labour thread but he was my 4th baby.

My 3rd (labour) was fab!

1st - textbook horrible... 24 hours, transfer by ambulance, 5.5 hours second stage, ventouse and forceps. Horrible tear.

(2nd was elective c-section)

3rd (2nd labour) - was 7 hours, born in her waters.

4th (3rd labour) - was 4 hours. 10lb 14 and a graze!

All of them on gas and air and Tens. I liked the idea of the birthing pool but never managed to get off the bed.

Good luck - I got really quite panicked before my last one and listenend to a hypnobirthing CD which helped calmed me down. Good job too as I was hanging around for 42 weeks...

A piece of cake in as much as childbirth can be a piece of cake . Waters broke at 5.45 pm (7 days overdue), not much happened for a long time - eventually went in at midnight, and then DC4 was born at 5.55 a.m. No stitches (unlike the others). Was back home 4 hours later.

She was a doddle until she learnt to walk at 18 months, since then she's always reckoned she is at least the same age as dc2!!!!

somanyboyssolittletime · 28/12/2009 21:29

Thanks everyone!

Lockets- my second arrived on my birthday, having held out for 2 weeks too, so can sympathise with you on that score! Birthdays have never been the same since! In fact, not sure I have even had one!? Other births have been pretty straightforward, so fingers crossed.

Hassled - love that you were home in 4 hours. Perfect!

Changer - have been wondering about hypnobirthing CD - have I left it a bit late at 34 weeks? I supposed it can't do any harm.

very quick! about 1.5 hours from waters breaking to dd being born..she came after 4 pushes..and no stitches

changer22 · 28/12/2009 21:58

Mine was done by my friend (a hypnotherapist). It basically helped me relax when I went for a sleep in the last few weeks instead of panicking. I didn't really ever hear all of it (I fell asleep too quickly - so it did its job!) but she told me she had said that she was telling me to trust my body and the people I was with. I'd give it a go at 34 weeks. You might have another 2 months to go!

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 28/12/2009 22:01

Mine was lovely
it stopped for a bit which was a bugger but no pain relief
and the pysiological final stage was lovely and both myself and ds3 were so chilled and Im sure that its had a knockon in that we bonded great and hes still chilled
home as soon as they let me that afternoon

noshouting · 28/12/2009 22:13

Fourth was lovely
38 weeks to the day, also used Hypnobirthing CDs
Phone my midwife at 7pm as was niggling, filled birth pool.
Chilled out on sofa watching TV, contractions every 5 mins or so.
10pm called midwife too say come now as pressure increasing.
10 30 got into bith pool it was soooooo lovely to be in the warm water
10 35 waters go, nice and clear so no worries.
1045 midwife arrives I tell her baby is just sitting here waiting!!
1047 baby born and I lift him up in water.
Lots of lovely cuddles in pool then out onto bed for physiological third stage and glass of champagne.
Just writing it down makes me broody

sweetkitty · 28/12/2009 22:21

Oh keep these wonderful 4th birth stories coming, I'm 22 weeks with no4, so far I have had

DD1 4h 20m from waters to baby, very painful just on gas and air (MWs didn't believe I was in so much pain), second degree tear as she came out with her hand by her face, tonne of stitches

DD2 2h 30m homebirth, G&A, 9lbs 3ozs not even a graze, again v painful

DD3 1h 35m from waters to baby, 45 mins of hard contractions, didn't even push her out, kind of felt her slide out in two contractions, homebirth, G&A

so no 4 I am hoping will be a few contractions and out in the ad break of Corrie or could be a right bugger and take ages, I seem to have no niggles, nothing, then whoosh 0-60 in seconds, contractions on the back of each other, fast but agony

Rolf · 28/12/2009 22:36

Lovely lovely lovely experience. I used hypnosis techniques (not hypnobirthing) and listened to the CD every day. I'd definitely recommend it. Very fast labour, didn't make it to the hospital but I didn't panic and felt fabulous afterwards.

Good luck

sweetkitty · 28/12/2009 22:38

Afterpains with third were horrific, might ask for morphine after the baby is born, would like to spend a few hours in a morphine haze afterwards never had morphine before.

norfolkBRONZEturkey · 28/12/2009 22:40

I didn't get any afterpains with 4th
Can I highly recommend that physiological final stage (didnt bleed long either)

sweetkitty · 29/12/2009 09:05

norfolk - I had a physiological third stage with the last two. The last one I think my body still thought it was in labour, I wanted the whole first BF whilst still attached, placenta to come away when it was ready, cord to stop pulsing and everything like I had with DD2 but I was getting such bad contractions just after she was born that I couldn't hold her or even look at her, kind of ruined that time a little bit (until the cocodamol kicked in though) never got afterpains with BFing afterwards just the first half hour after she was born.

somanyboyssolittletime · 29/12/2009 15:32

Thanks again everyone - I feel very reassured, and will definitely be getting hypnobirthing CD.
