Hi
I am sure you are all celebrating with your loved ones and eating up all the cold turkey leftovers but I wondered if someone with the knowledge could let me know whether they think I am in early labour?!

I am 37 + 2 and for the last week I have had quite a lot of clear discharge with a distinctive sweet smell to the point where I am now wearing pads. Over the last 48 hours I have had a variety of interesting cramps like period cramps and lower back pain along with a few whopping Braxton Hicks. Nothing too painful as I hosted Christmas and cooked dinner yesterday so felt that if they were contractions I would be in far more pain.
I did have a dizzy moment yesterday and got v hot, I was made to lie down by my relatives.

However, this morning I have woken up with period pain and a BOGEY has just come out when I went for a wee.

Is this a show? Should I be getting ready? Bag is packed but other stuff needs to be done etc.

TIA

Hmmm, does sound promising. Sods law says do things that needs doing and it will all stop, don't do it and you will give birth by tomorrow
I would do what needs doing if it is things where it doesn't matter if they are done earlier and just keep pottering around.
IF the period pains get worse then try and get a nap so you are rested. If ot helps I had BH's for ages and mild contractions but actual labour felt like sudden onset of period pain which then eased into steady contractions.
Good luck!

It does sound like a show

With DD (2nd baby but first labour) I had a show at 5.30am and she was born at 9.25pm.

It does sound like a show, so things are progressing, but some people also have a show a week or so before they go into labour.

You mentioned a sweet smelling discharge, this could be your waters leaking so I would recommend you call your MW and tell her about it. It may be a leak that has resealed itself, but also you need to rule out the risk of infection.

Good luck

A bogey...

Few more gushes here and there but no real pain. Off to watch David Tennant's Hamlet.

Thanks for all responses and have a lovely Boxing Day.

I think I may have just had a contraction but not sure and have no frame of reference!

Had quite a few BHs over last trimester so know what they feel like. I have on/off cramps in periody way in my back and abdo for the last few hours but then about forty mins ago the pain in my back suddenly got quite intense and 'hot' and worked its way around to my front and it was pretty hurty and different from anything I have experienced so far! It lasted about ten seconds and faded away but left me with a heavy dragging pain in my abdo, which has gone now.

Had nothing since. Does this sound like a ctx only if it is false labour I dread to think what the real one is like!

OK - I would get ready to go if I were you. It may be a while yet, but the sweet smelling liquid sounds like your waters going, and you need to be a bit careful hanging around for long after that. I would give the hospital a ring and ask them what they think if I were you. Good luck - exciting, isn't it?!

My labours started with period type pains in my back. I also had hot flushes the day before.

Sounds like your baby may be on its way

kitsmummy · 26/12/2009 23:06

It sounds like labour, good luck!!!! I'm sure if it is labour starting then you will know soon enough, I'm sure the pain will be a give away

NonnoMum · 26/12/2009 23:06

It sounds like you might be in pre-labour but it's still early days now. How exciting!

Maybe the best thing to do is to sleep on it (with your bag by the front door). Then, it's either going to crank up (oh dear!) or go off for a few days in which case your baby will have a birthday just that little bit further away from Christmas!

And make sure your driver/birth partner isn't over the limit (or is it too late for that?)

Thingiebob · 26/12/2009 23:24

Had no more ctx pains but plenty of BH and a bit confused. My DH doesn't drink so not too worried about that Nonno!

Feel a bit weird about it all as it is quite early.

Thanks guys. I think I might go off to bed. Not sure if you can have contractions as far apart as over an hour? Maybe you can and I just don't know.

Thingiebob - Before you go, can we talk about names?

Good luck.

Woke up between 4-4:15am with two large ctx wrapping around from my back to my front and taking my breath away. Very different from BH so panicked slightly and listened to my natal hypnotherapy cd but not a sausage since apart from a sore lower back.

Nevermind eh? I'll prob end being induced in the end!

Thanks all!
