cramping at 39 weeks

Hi ladies,

I'm 39 weeks pregnant, and have had absolutely no signs of anything happening over the last few days. Even the BHs have stopped.

Last night I felt really rubbish and hardly slept - twitchy, disoriented and a bit sick - and today I'm getting quite alot of cramping, a bit like period pain, on and off.

Is this likely to be the onset of labour, or am I just getting over excited? Your thoughts please!

Could well be First baby?

pinkmagic1 · 09/12/2009 14:12

Sounds like it could be early labour. Have you timed between the cramps?

Hassled · 09/12/2009 14:12

I would say that Things Are Starting To Happen . Are you all set? Bag packed?

notnowbernard · 09/12/2009 14:16

What Hassled said

How exciting!

Rachiesparrow · 09/12/2009 14:19

ladyoftheflowers - yes, first baby....

pinkmagic - no, not yet. I didn't want to get over excited about it. I thought they might stop, but they keep coming back. They're not very regular though.

Hassled - bag has been packed for 3 weeks....

fingers crossed......

My first came bang on 39 weeks.

Rachiesparrow · 09/12/2009 16:10

ha, but its all good though.

it can stop and start a few days or even weeks running up to it.

I was ona nd off like that with ds2 for about 2 weeks then went for a sweep and was 3cms dialated. didnt even know it!

madmissy · 10/12/2009 11:36

I'm 38+3 and been like this last few days.. think of it this way something starting to happen now makes less to happen on the actual labour day!

i'm being induced in 5days so the more that happens now the better!

Portofino · 10/12/2009 11:38

I was induced but my first contractions felt like bad period pains. Fingers crossed you're on your way!

Rachiesparrow · 10/12/2009 13:35

I hope so.

Had quite bad cramps last night, but today... nada.

mine are coming and going too back again now. i'm having a sweep at 4ish so hope that encourages something!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 10/12/2009 16:23

With me, I know labour is starting as I get a very faint dull lower back ache - almost like heat radiating in the base of my back. It feels tight and tense.

I then start to get crampiness in my lower belly like I am going to have an attack of the trots, go to the loo, nothing.
This then turns into a constant period like ache accompanied with crampiness.

This then turns into waves of pain, the cramping, usually at 5 mins apart getting closer, but with DS2 they started at 2 mins apart. All the while my back carries on with this tight 'hot' feeling.

That's how its felt last 3 times. Hope this one is the same and not different as this is what I will be looking out for.

How exciting for all you ladies.

madmissy · 10/12/2009 17:09

Lady of flowers that sounds like my labours.
Just had a sweep and looking good but will not hold out lol

Rachiesparrow · 12/12/2009 13:22

Well... after all the excitement - nothing is happening. I'm resigned horrified at the idea of going over due as of Tuesday.
