Should my csection scar look like this?

I had an emergency c section 3 weeks ago. A week later my wound got infected and began to weep. I kept it clean and took anti biotics to clear up infection.

My wound seems to have healed but at the 2 points where it was weeping, the skin has turned a black colour. It's only along the actual scar, not the area around it. Is this normal? Has anyone else had experience of this?

Also, if you had a section, how long did it take the internal swelling/scar tissue just above the scar to go down?

I've not had a section and am in no way an expert, I don't want to worry you, but what you say doesn't sound right at all. I think it would be best for you to see a doctor tomorrow.

no idea about the black areas - i would get it checked out, but the scar tissue above took at least a year to diminish, and still hasn't gone properly after 2.9yrs.

Dont over-do it if you can help it - i heaved my pushchair into the car at 6wks and it ripped open a bit. Be kind to yourself

I would get it checked out by your Dr as it shouldn't be black and it could be the tissue is dead. I have a bit above my c-section that is numb as well and apparantly that is quite normal...that's what the midwife told me today anyway.

Black can not be good in my unqualified opinion so see your GP.

My scar wasn't sewn up right and left for 12 hours. I ended up having to have an op 15 months later.

See your GP.

Been to docs. Apparently it is normal for the scar to go this colour or a dark purple before it turns silvery . So that's put my mind at rest. xxx

Glad to hear all is well . You can never be too careful with these things!

FabIsVeryFestive · 12/12/2009 10:00

Keep an eye on it. Mine was a mess and never went dark purple.

maybebaby23 · 12/12/2009 14:06

Mine went dark purple but not black..but mine was keloid and stayed dark purple, thick and raised for 2.5 years!

Keep an eye on it, black is pretty worrying isn't it?

use bio oil once the scar is healed. it stopped my scar from becoming really raised and purple and itchy!
