how much bigger (if any) than baby number 1 was baby number 2?
did it feel different?
am due with number 2 in 5 weeks and bricking it! DS's birth wasn't particularly traumatic (esp compared to some of the horror stories I have read) but was very full-on and painful, I seemed either to skip the first stage or not notice it and spend 9 hours in absolute agony. Didn't help DS had a huge head and wasn't born until 3 hours after crowning as he kept slipping back up iyswim?!
Am really quite scared of how much pain I'm going to be in this time around!
Reassuring stories most welcome. Thanks!

Half birthing time ds 7lbs 2oz dd 8lbs 2oz but there head sixes were pretty similar.

suiledonne · 06/12/2009 16:51

dd1 - labour 4 hours, 6lb 3ozs

dd2 - labour 2 hours, 8lb

DD1 slipped back up a few times and it was the worst part of the birth for me as the midwife would say 'I see her head, here she comes' but when the contraction was over it was like starting again.

I didn't have this on dd2 - she was out in only a couple of pushes.

Best of luck

Oh Suiledonne, that's exactly the type of story I'm after. I am going to print it out and read it every night !

My second was actually smaller than my first!!!
Both straightforward births, but much longer (and more painful) pushing stage with my first.

Ds (my first) was 3.8 kg, big head. 1 hr pushing stage.
DD 3.2 kg. She was out in a couple of pushes

(Mind you, I had dd while squatting on the bed, which I found a perfect position, while I was on my back with ds)

ChasingSquirrels · 06/12/2009 17:01

ds1 - 7lb
ds2 - 6lb 13.5oz

ds1 - 2 hrs labour
ds2 - 15 mins labour

ds1 - 1 hour pushing
ds2 - well, he just fell out really

midnightexpress · 06/12/2009 17:07

Mine were exactly the same size (6lb13oz).

Both Em CS though so can't help you on that score.

Dd1 arrived at hosp ten am she was born almost 4pm. Gas and air then epidural, episiotomy, ventouse. 8.5lb

Dd2 arrived hosp 11pm born around 2am. Gas and Air and bit of pethidine for pushing.

9lb.

(dd2 birth quicker and easier but had retained placenta and had to have mrop in theatre and blood transfusion but I'll leave that bit out )

Good luck.

my DS was 7lb 13, born by emergency c.s after an induction that did not work. induction started around 10 am and he was born at 8pm and i spent 4 days in hospital.

DD was born on her due date, long latent phase, but only 3 hours 15 established labour, 30 ,mins pushing and home 14 hours later, ,would have been sooner, but no-one to discharge me. she was 7lb 8. so much better and easier experience second time and hyer head was 3 cm smaller in circumference than DS

DingALongCow · 06/12/2009 19:04

DD- week late, OP, 22 hour labour, long latent stage/quick dilation, 3 minutes pushing, 8 lb 4 oz, 75th percentile head, second degree tear.

DS- five days late, OP mostly but turned to be born OA, 19 hour labour, long latent stage/quick dilation, 3 minutes pushing, 9 lbs 6 oz, 75th percentile head, first degree tear and one stitch.

DS so much less painful.

dinamum · 06/12/2009 19:20

DD1 labour went on for days and days ended up with forceps 8lb10oz masses of stitches!

DS2 1hour 30mins no pain relief born one push and he was here 8lb 4oz at 6.0am Cooking supper for family in the evening felt fantastic
