Labour notes

Does anyone know if it's possible to get hold of a copy of one's labour/delivery notes? Or are they off-limits after the event? My 21 week DD was delivered with Neville Barnes forceps after a couple of heart-rate decelerations, and it was quite upsetting at the time. I think that it would really help me to see the notes and understand what exactly was going on. Does this make sense??

Yes, you are entitled to get hold of the notes. See this link for some advice.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. It totally makes sense that going through the notes, perhaps with an understanding medical professional, would help you deal with it.

Hope DD is doing ok now!

Yes you can request a debrief which is what I had with the consultant as I am pregnant with number 2 and had concerns over DD's birth. Or my SIL requested her notes and went through them with her mw.
Makes total sense to want to know more although sadly my notes didn't a lot of sense so there are still blanks but I feel a lot happier.

the hospital you gave birth in should have a Patient Liason Service (PALS) who can arrange for you to meet with a consultant to talk through your birth. They will even go with you if you want them to.
