Quick question re induction

Hi everyone,

I'm due to go into the hospital at 8am on Monday to have my waters broken if no baby by then and didn't ask the most simple of questions....

When they break my waters do I then stay in hospital until baby is born (VBAC and will be 41+4) or will they send me home? This is important to me as DH doesn't drive so I can't decide whether to drive in myself or get a taxi... also, do I arrange for DS to go to his dads that day?

hope someone can answer this!

cheers

No, you'll be expected to stay in. They'll probably give you 2-4 hours to start contracting and if not will give you a hormone drip to get things going.

They will keep you in as they will want to monitor you - during an induction they monitor constantly in most cases but you may be able to negotiate with them and only be monitored for a certain amount of time every hour - I would guess though, that this will be unlikely considering that you are having a VBAC. Worth asking the question though.

hi waddle I'll be with you in spirit!!

Can I ask why theyre starting you off with ARM? (think I asked you before, cant remember).

Doesnt look like Im gonna go into labour either, they will be starting me with pessaries on monday.

In answer to your post though yes they will expect you to stay in, dont be conned into sending your dh home, I refused to let mine go unless I went with him and they let him stay. Also agree about negotiating the monitoring, if everything is going to plan. Put it in your birth plan, Ive re-done mine for the induction because I dont want continuous monitoring.

Good luck, and come back and we can compare horro birth stories

Hi Moss,

yeah sorry forgot to answer that.... not sure really, I think the consultant was suggesting straight to waters as I have been cramping for about 3-4 weeks now and she did a mega sweep so thought that I might not need the help with the dilation...

With DS my waters broke first then after 39 hours of back to back agony his heart rate went up to 200 and I hadn't progressed from 9cm for about 3 hours so had a emcs, they are thinking that I should be ok with this one and I'm hoping that the 3-4 weeks of pain delightful cramps may get me there before the waters go....

I've prewarned DH that I will afrgue and scream like a banshee if they try and pin me to the bed with continuous monitoring so fingers crossed for access to the mobile monitor or intermittant one, I also told my MW to expect a complain from me as I will argue and poss walk off the ward! lol

Think I had better arrange childcare for DS for Monday and book a taxi on Sunday... hopefully peanut will come this weekend though!

Good luck too Moss!
