I had none at all with dd when she was born. I ff her though.

This time I want to bf dc2 and am wondering how bad the after pains will get. Is it safe to take anything while breast feeding?

I didn't get any when I had dd2 who is breastfed

You can take paracetemol and ibuprofen though if you need to

afterpains were bloody agony with DD2 - honestly felt like contractions again. I took paracetemol which helped a bit.

Thanks. I wonder why some women get then and others dont and if there is anything you can do to prevent them.

I didn't have any after my first labour but they were horrible the 2nd time round, I sat and cried and dreaded every feed in the first couple of days after the birth.

I also didn't have any with DD1 eventhough I breasfed. I really hope to avoid them this time round too as they really don't sound nice!!

Agony with DS2 but less with DS3 - heat pack was enough for all but one bad half hour. I was given co-codamol to bring home but haven't used as personal preference is some pain and no constipation but might be handy to have something stronger just in case?

I had none for ds1 who was bf but lots for dd they were like cc I found I could deal physically if I didn't hold her much and if after bf I walked just outside the room sadly being close to dd was what triggered them I certainly was not happy for guests to hold her when I couldn't.

But mind you I may have been in agony but within 12 hours of giving birth I walked out wearing my size 8 clothes and I put on 3 1/2 stone so try to remember the more pain you get the thinner you will be.
