mid cavity forceps delivery - what is it?

I had quite a long drawn out delivery which started with induction and ended with a forceps delivery. Whilst in hospital I noticed that my notes said MCFD and when I asked one of the midwives what this meant she said mid cavity forceps delivery and pulled quite a sympathetic face. I didn't think anymore of this but since being home I've realised that I don't really know what this means and how it differs from a normal forceps delivery. I can get back in touch with the hospital as I know they'll go over the birth, but I was hoping that a mumsnetter could give a quick biology lesson and explain in the meantime, as I didn't have too much luck searching on google. Many thanks in advance.
