Please Help, anyone know of anywhere i can pay for a c-section? nearish northamptonshire

Hi, i had a baby 06/09 and was so so ill after having him, it was a vaginal birth, After the birth i had a severe migraine and i cant remember anything of the first 2 days of my DS's life, apparently i punched a nurse and kicked a doctor, i dont want to go through that again. I dont feel the hospitals around here will give me a c-section as they were all so unhelpful with my 1st pg. I feel i cant ever have a baby again and feel it is so unfair, the pregnancy was very bad aswell as 3 days of the week i was ill in bed and i lost so much weight, my ds was only 6lb 6oz when born, smallest ever in my family history. Can anyone help me to find somewhere that can offer me some help in a c-section. thanks for reading, didnt mean it to get this long

you should be able to get a c section due to the trauma you suffered after your first delivery on the NHS. you need to debrief with the hospital so you find out exactly what happened and why. you should be able to choose where to deliver within reason ,ask your GP for help

did you have an epidural?sometimes you can get dural tap which gives a really severe headache

I had an absolutely horrendous birth with DS, lots of serious problems and very poor care.

I am expecting DS2 in a few weeks and this time I just made it clear to my midwife when booking in that I wanted to go to another hospital, which was absolutely no problem at all. I am also having an elective section this time for the same reason. It wasn't difficult at all once I went through everything that happened last time.

Poppy, your baby wasn't that small.

DS was 6lb15oz and I've never considered that he was small. Your ds may have been the smallest ever in your family history but you've added some new genes haven't you? Maybe your OH's side of the family have had teensy babies back in time.

What I mean is, please don't beat yourself up about that bit.

Thank you cade, i know what you mean, he is quite a sickly baby and quite small for his age, but that i believe is because he had pyloric stenosis.
Thank you flowery and lulu you are already making me see that there is hope after all, ive been feeling for a year that i have no choice thank you soo much

I didnt have an epidural, i had gas and air and i cant remember the name of the other, think it was pethidine but they gave me 2 or 3 of those he was really blue when he came out it was terrifying for my mum and dh who were my birthing partners, my mum still gets weepy talking about that

sounds very traumatic. i would make an appoinment to go through things with a midwife and it willhelp you understand things and come to terms with things.

pethdine is usually given in doses 4 hours apart, but if given too close too delivery can depress teh breathing reflex in the baby

That would make sense as he was so blue, they def were not 4 hours apart

It's really not that long since you had your baby and I know that after I had my DD it was a few months after the birth that I started getting really upset about how it went. Have you had someone from the hospital talk you through your notes and how you feel? It might help.

As others have said if you really want an elective you might not find it that hard to get one. And well, if it is hard then since electives are booked in advance you can sort childcare and get down to London for private care if there is nowhere more local.

One thing I would say is that because your baby's birth is so recent you might find your feelings change over time. When my DD was born (emcs) I was sure I would never put myself through labour again, but I am due in less than 2 weeks and hoping for a waterbirth. If I could go back in time and tell 2006 me that I would change my mind I would have thought I was insane.

You have lots of options. I'm sure you can work something out when you need to.

you really need to go through your notes and understand why things happened the way they did, before you make any decisions about future deliveries

Ah sorry, didn't see it was 2008. But still, all of those feelings can take a while to work through (took me a couple of years). Births are overwhelming to say the least and when they are traumatic it is a Big Deal.

16 months seems like a long time when i didnt realise i could do what has been recommended by everyone, i will def talk to dr, mw, ill book an appointment next week, luckily i have a good mw and dr.

If you have no joy try PALS at your hospital. They'll be able to contact a senior midwife and help you set something up.

All i know is im sure my illness was due to a severe migraine but they have it on there notes that is was pychosis I was treated like i was mad which annoyed me and got to say i still am embarassed by it all, no mental illness before or after pg no pnd, i will speak to doc, thanks again

it is a rare side effect ,as it were of giving birth

this is why it is vital to go through your notes with a professional, and understand exactly what happened

Sorry to hear about your experience.

Might you have had a bad reaction to the pethidine? Some people do (especially having hallucinations and so on).

I don't know which Northamptonshire hospital you were in but I had a very good experience in the one I had my DCs in. Maybe it is worth talking to them as others have said.

You can have a private c/s at Watford General, it's manageable from Northampton.
