back ache months after c section

hello ladies

just wondering if anyone can help. i had a c section after a long time on epidural for failure to progress. all good (bar some emotional issues which i'm sort of working through)

anyhow i seem to get back ache so incredibly easy now and i never did before - even when pregnant.

is it coincidnce or just something mummies get or is it something to do with the epidural/ spinal block?

hoping someone can help!

I had a back ache for a few months after my c-section. My dr said it was quite likely that my spine had been scraped when the epidural went in.

Quite normal. My scar is still numb too, and ds is 2.6! The nerve endings haven't healed.

It might also be where your stomach muscles are weaker after being cut and therefore not supporting your back.

This happened to me and the only thing that helped was going to pilates and really getting my stomach muslces back in to some kind of shape.

If you had an EmCS after a long labor you might also have dislodge something in your spine (I did). Get yourself checked by a physio to make sure your back alignment is fine.
Otherwise I will go with everybody else and the weak muscles, pilates or yoga are both great if you had the all clear at your 8 weeks check up. Some people told me that swimming helps too, but you need to go there... you can do a bit of yoga and/or pilates on DVD while baby is napping. If you can I would recommand to go to a proper class so you have some me time as well.

This might sound daft - but is your pram/pushchair to blame? I had terrible backache after my cs which magically disappeared after I ditched the pram and got a pushchair. I think the way my pram was designed meant that it was putting too much strain on my back (which was already over-compensating for my shot-to-pieces abs). Try adjusting the handle, if you can.

not the pushchair as i hadn't used it for a few days.

i'm looking into some pilates classes near me as i think i will have to do some core strengthening as DS is such a big lad!

A friend ended up seeing a physio for her post-cs backache - who said it's the cut through the muscles and that pilates is the best cure. I also had loads of back pain and pilates did help.

This is really helpful for me as I've been having ridiculous amounts of back pain to the point were I couldn't pick my gorgeous girl up the other morning. Granted I'm not a slim jim but its been getting silly now and the doctor said there's nothing she can do and that my back just needs time to heal but my baby's 8months now so hopefully I can get a DVD or something (classes seem to be so expensive) and sort myself out so thanks :)

yes, and after my hysterectomy where they used a spinal block. At the time I wondered if it was the last bits of healing going on in the spine.

IIRC I got a couple of massages and made the effort to fit in yoga and some more gym sessions to loosen it all up again.

I can totally sympathise. Had my DD by EMCS after failing to progress too. DD is now 10mo and I've still got backaches.

I did wonder if it was more to do with body changes during pg rather than the cs but not sure now. I also wondered if it was poor positioning when I bf but it's still going on and DD is weaned now and only bf morning and night,

At night I sleep on my tummy and during the night my back kind of locks up and it's really hard to roll over or turn. The back of my hips aches all the time. Like I need a really deep tissue massage. Doing circles with my hips or the childs pose (if you know yoga) helps but it's a daily problem. Not a major issue but prob because I've gotten used to it now. Maybe they offer free spa/massage treatments on the NHS?!! Must see Dr and ask them...

Hey ...

I'd pregnency 3 years ago through c-section. But on and after pregnency ... I'm suffering from severe back pain for every 6 months and that to lasts for a week. It is very severe that i can't even sit in those days. Please help me with any answer or suggestion.

I think its due to poor core strength after pregnancy and the surgery where the stomach muscles are parted. Probably coupled with lots of bending down and picking up baby/nappy changes etc. Pilates helped me a lot too.

I had 2 emergency cesareans and I have very bad back pain after my last cesarean that was 8 months ago. Had 3 flare ups now in 4 months when I suffer so much, can't keep upright, can't sit or stand, can't lift. It's so hard.
