Are you usually given an induction date before you are due?

I visited mw on Thursday, last check up before my edd which is Tues 15th, MW booked me in for an induction on the 27th.

I didn't go over due with ds, he came on his edd. But i wasn't booked for an induction.

So am i being paranoid in thinking that they gave me an induction date because they think baby isn't coming in the next 2 weeks? Head isn't engaged yet, but i am going crazy waiting!

Yes it's normal for them to give you a date even before the EDD has been and gone, they love to have you in the system. I avoided booking a routine 34 week appt. with consultants for precisely this reason.

If you dont' want to go ahead with induction you don't "have" to, btw, no matter what they say. The final decision is always yours, you decide whether to take their advice.

Firstly dont worry that head isnt engaged yet, the day I had a midwife appointment with DS1 (Which she told me babys head wasnt engaged)was the day i went in to labour with him! Just goes to show you!

Also my friend is only 17 wks preggers and she has already been given an induction date!
Im 20 wks but havnt been given a date.
I dont think its because they think baby isnt coming yet because its so unpredictable.

O so the head can just engage at labour then? That is good to know. I think ds was engaged for a few weeks iirc.

There are good previous threads on MN about induction.
Basically, they give you a pessary in the birth canal.
If that doesn't start off ctx (and usually it doesn't) they set you up on a drip of artificial hormones that almost certainly will kickstart the contrax. Other details vary a lot by your hospital, so you should quiz your MW closely (not that she will necessarily know current procedure at your hospital, either). Most people say that being induced is pretty intense.

2nd or later babies may very well not engage until labour.

You know that having worried about all this that the baby will probably come suddenly, easily and quite in time, now? Preggo woman are great for unnecessary worry.

I have a feeling though, that it won't be too long, i am becoming more and more tiered by the minute - and the day ds arrived i didn't wake up till 2.30pm.

My MW booked me an discussion of induction appointment before my due date, purely because she said if we wait a couple of weeks until I AM actually overdue, they won't be able to fit me in ! My rxn was great, lets wait then

Am seeing the consultant on friday to discuss (refuse) induction, but am due tomorrow, supposedly
