Do you still get a bounty pack if you have a Home Birth

My friend has been raving about hers, said it had lots of nice freebies in it - I lurve freebies . I know it is a bit marketting thing but free is free right?

No such thing as free! If you want your child's details to go to a billion companies who will target her when she is 18 to try to sell her a convertable car in exchange for you savings lovingly into her child trust, then by all means insist!

don't you get samples though? My friend reckons she got some great stuff for cracked nipples and she only needed to use the sample pack.

I know people that have monitored this by submitting an incorrect name and the answer is substantial.

southwest That would be lanishoh and yes the samples are enough to last a whole breastfeeding lifecycle

If you HAVE to accept the pack, refuse to give your details.

And how - did they have 2 packs, one in the correct name and one not, and then make sure they did exactly the same for the enture 18 years of childhood to judge the outcome?

No course not. Children's Trust funds haven't run for 18 years anyway.

There at about year 6 and they are still getting stuff weekly with their incorrect name on it. They nver gave their correct name.

Junk can go in the bin, but I promise you that it won't be that long before your council, like mine is charging for bin collections as well as extra recycling.

Bounty is BIG business. If they have your name, you can betcha that everyone else will, and they will know when your child starts school for the first time, and try to sell you name labels, and they'll know when your child is about to take their gcses and try to sell you/them memory aids etc etc etc.

Like I say - it just goes in the bin.
It isn't something that bothers me (or others), it is something that bothers you (I presume) and others. So each to their own.

I have to say that I don't think the extra paper/junk generated by unsolicited mail will take me over the level of "extra" recycling, but if it did then I would deal with that by returning the mail as "receipent unknown at this address".

Our details are everywhere, to me this is a fact of our current lives and it doesn't bother me. To others it is not acceptable.

What is good is discussions like this, and the otehr thread, which enable people to make an informed decision about these issues.

Just Bounty. You'd be surpised how much they generate and why it is a disgrace they only pay £1 per person.

I've given my details to Bounty (several times). I've not received anything off them once the children reached school-age or around gcse time. Only things I received were the packs and there might have been a couple of mail-shots (which may or may not have been due to Bounty) when they were under-3 but not enough that I remember.

Mind you, when it was my first baby I did love going through it, so my earlier post was a bit harsh...it has been a long time since I had a newborn

Yes, you get the pack if you have a home birth. I didn't get Lansinoh samples in mine though - my midwife (Wonderful woman!!) brought round about 5 sachets on day 3, just in time. I never filled in my details though - probably because DP just went and got the packs directly from the midwives. I had a hospital birth and the hospital was busy so I got put back on the labour ward as I was having a 6-hour discharge (was supposed to have a hb so wanted to be in hosp as little time as possible!)

I told the Bounty lady I didn't want a pack because we used to drown in junk mail before we moved house - she got really stroppy with me and insisted I take it, although didn't take my name/address (wouldn't have been a problem anyway as we moved 8 months later) - but can't say I thought the contents were that exciting, didn't get any lansinoh, which is the only thing which would have been useful, and most of the rest went in the bin - which seems a bit of a waste of paper etc. Oh, and she also tried to tell me I had to have one, otherwise I couldn't get a form to apply for child benefit - fortunately, I'd already downloaded that from the HMRC website - have to say, her attitude put me off even more.

Having a HB this time and hoping to avoid the whole issue.....

My homebirth was not a Bounty free zone. The chocolate variety that is. If the midwife had brought along that gawdawful pack with her I would have told her to take it back.

Sort of a longish time ago, before babies, rockets and Lebanon I am sure, some mumsnetters were up in arms about how the NSPCC had gotten hold of their details. They concluded that it was through Bounty. Their upset was that being terribly hormonal at the time, some with PND, the NSPCC had targeted them for donations using those very emotive tales of 'Miles doesn't cry anymore' and other stories of abuse. Many concluded that it was very hard sell to target women at this time as some women could potentially be suffering bereavement as these mail shots and selling on of info is indiscriminate. I know I can't blame Bounty directly for this but these companies are only after you to make money off you later on. The freebies is the mealy worm to catch the fish.

As someone who delivered the bounty packs to new mums in hospital until recently I can assure you that Bounty do not pass on your details. I gave them my details when I had DS 2yrs ago and I've never received anything other than what I've signed up to myself.

Bounty do however take details to account for the child benefit forms as they need to make sure each mum gets one but there is a box on the data collection sheet that says 'no to mailings' and you won't receive anything from Bounty at all, not even their emails. Alot of the info is used to compile statistics with though like most popular names, how many twins, age of mums etc etc so personally I think it is worth giving your details but make sure they tick the 'no no mailings' box at the bottom of the form just to be sure.

With regards to whats in the bags I have some extra stock left over and all thats it them is a pampers tub to put your wipes in, some milk toothpaste and a travel tub of sudocrem, the rest is rubbish so apart from your child benefit form they're really not worth worrying about.

Millie It would be illegal to sell on your details if you have ticked the box saying not to, but my experience of Bounty is that you don't even see the form, the just bark at you and take your identity without telling you why or what your details will be used for.

I'm a bit about them taking details for the CB forms. Why would they do that? It doesn't make sense? Could it be they just tell their staff that is what it is for so that they can live in ignorant bliss or being the nice lady that gives free stuff?

My last delivery was at hospital and I didn't get a Bounty pack even offered to me. I applied for child benefit myself it was very easy.

lol at how bounty market themselves to their staff!

you can get child benefit forms form the job centre.
