I've read a thread in which someone is implying a 24 hour labour is not a bad one,

Well I've given birth 3 times and non of my labours went past 6 hours,

6 hours is a VERY short labour, especially for your first and i thought I was going to DIE.

I managed to do it each time without intervention / pain relief, but thats because I was so luckiy in thee length of them all.

But I am telling you now .. if I had hit 8, 10, 12 hours (still relativly short) I would have been hysterical and throttling the midwives!

So well done to anyone who suffered that long!

Snap littlefish! Contractions started Wednesday morning (11am), DD born Sunday morning (6:15am). Pushing stage was only 35 mins though, thank god, as I was a little tired by that time (hadn't slept through any of it - who knew you could go without sleep for 4 nights?)

EssieW · 27/08/2009 10:00

Am relieved to find others with long 2nd stage!

Hecate - Essie isn't my real name but linked to my initials. My Dad used to call me this when I was little.

Littlefish · 27/08/2009 10:31

Boobz - our experiences do sound very similar! I always thought it was a little unfair that, at the point where I was more tired than I had ever been in my life, I was handed a little bundle of baby who didn't want to sleep! I think it would have been much better to have taken her away and brought her back to me when she was about a month old .

I think woman who have really long labours muyst be mega hard.

My first Dc was 4 hours and that was long enough for me !

Hersetta · 27/08/2009 11:00

I think i might win !

Contractions started 8.30 Saturday night and continue every 6 mins until Thursday night when waters break and contractions go to every 2 minutes.

DD Born 3.10pm Friday afternoon (by EMCS) as I was still only 3cm.

Work week of my life (apart from end result of a gorgeous, healthly DD who will be 2 on Monday!).

Of course you may. If you feel the need I suspect we all do what we have to do to get our babies born. Not sure what is applause-worthy about it.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 27/08/2009 20:30

Essie - It's just that Essie is my nickname in rl too. Made me wonder if we had the same proper name.

Why thank you Disenchandted3. My 85 hours of labour was an interesting way to spend 4 days!! x

ib · 27/08/2009 22:24

Thank you, but I reckon that longer labours are actually easier (assuming all normal).

My sister had a long labour and a short one, and she said the short one was MUCH more intense.

So maybe you get the same amount of suffering but more condensed?

HeadFairy · 27/08/2009 22:27

I am always in awe of anyone who's done this (ok so there are quite a few!) I had to have an el cs for ds due to him sticking his feet out first, I cannot understand how anyone survives 40+ hours of active labour. I am in awe!

My friend had her first in 4 hours, her second in 45 mins and her third in 30 mins from first (proper) contraction (she'd probably been dilating for a couple of days without feeling it) to last push! She said it's absolutely horrific, but after the second she said she didn't feel a bit scared when she was pg with the third as she knew it would be terrible but super fast. All home births of course!

pinkmagic1 · 27/08/2009 22:33

First labour 50 hours, 2nd 5 1/2 hours. Definitely choose the 2nd if I were to do it again. Can manage pain as long as its quick!

MuppetsMuggle · 27/08/2009 22:33

10hrs inc 45mins of pushing. Couldn't of done much more tbh was so tired.

Applauds you all.
