Plug has gone, now what to expect?

Am 39+3 today, and lost the mucus plug three hours ago. Wasn't bloody, just looked like a big wad of snot. Any guesses as to how long it might take until something else happens? Getting braxton hicks which are uncomfortable but not painful, and when I walk around I have bad twinges with every step.

Anything I can do to speed this up now?

i lost my plug about 2 weeks ago (or some of it at least) but i'm still waiting for things to happen! had a sweep on monday and have been losing more since (now a little bit blood-streaked). from what i've read elsewhere, it can mean anything from labour is imminent to not much at all! hope it's the former for you - the twinges when you walk around sound promising ...

I think it depends how many weeks you are when you lose the plug.
With my 2nd, waters broke, lost plug 7hrs later, gave birth 2hrs after that.

The mucus plug is practically meaningless in terms of labour starting tbh! (Sorry) Not all women experience it, some lose it down the loo weeks before and never know it happened. Some lose it well into labour. It is simply your cervix 'limbering up'. But the braxton hicks/mucus plug/twinges all taken together are good signs that your body is getting ready to have this baby, but may not be anytime soon. Or, you may be huffing and puffing as I speak and have this baby tonight but the mucus plug will not be the deciding factor iyswim!

Oh poo. Was really hoping to get this baby out some time this weekend, am just so sick of being pregnant! Will resign myself to the fact that plug loss does not necessarily equal imminent labour. I am trying to walk around and sit on my ball as much as possible in hopes of encouraging something to start though!

I thought I lost my 'plug' at about 38 weeks, but on hindsight, it was just 'snot-type stuff' (yukkk!), however, when I really lost the plug (which was quite big and deffo had blood in), was at 7am and contactions had just started and DS2 was born at 3am the next morning.. good luck! I was 40+4

i'm in the same boat, 41 weeks 2moro lost my plug 4 days ago still nothing! the waiting is hard isn't it! xx

Hi yank, I had a slightly different experience - lost my plug about the same time as you, then went into labour 2 days later! So you never know... fingers crossed!

Hope you're in labour somewhere already.
Both time I lost mine I went into labour that night so fingers are firmly crossed for you.

Unfortunately nothing happening, other than I seem to be getting a lot of what looks like egg white type mucus and the pains/twinges are worse. Every step is painful. DH refusing to take me anywhere nice to walk around (I want to go to the zoo, and he is probably quite sensibly saying no).

Yank, Im going to the garden centre Can I come to the zoo instead? Sounds like much more fun and hell, they have vets at zoo's with midwifery skills, got to be safer than a garden centre stamp your feet and make him take you - just stay away from the arachnid enclosure...

I had DD within 6 hours of the plug - i think the park would be better than the zoo - or stay at home and keep comfortable x

On my first dd I lost my plug at around 1.00am when I was 39+3. Gentle contractions started at 3.00am and delived dd at 7.30am so only 6 1/2 hours in total.

Didn't notice on dd2 but went from 1st twinge to delivery in 1 1/2 hours so had no time to think about it.

Hey Yank, I lost mine this morning, lets have a race. Actually thats a bit unfair as this is my second and things may go faster.

I'm being possitive that the plug coming away, back pain and the feeling like the baby is going to fall out with every step, means he is farking well on his way. If not, then I'm going to take a serious huff with him

bollocks...got DH to take me to library at 12:30, and as we left I was SURE my waters went (felt a gush like I'd peed myself, but pad appeared to have absorbed it). So spent afternoon at labour ward instead of zoo

Unfortunately they couldn't find anything other than more of the plug and loads of discharge.

Contractions, mild ones, seem to have started and are coming every 5-7 minutes, but I can talk through them and I'm not fricking going anywhere near that ward again until something is happening!

Hang in there Yank. If there was that much fluid it was almost certainly amniotic fluid. Things can start moving quite fast despite unpromising beginnings. What position is the bay lying in? If he or she was a little posterior, that might explain the seemingly fruitless contractions. They would actually be turning the baby into best birth position.
