Hiya,
Im now 22weeks pregnant, and getting a bit nervous about the birth.
With my ds (who'll be 20months old at the 2nd birth), I had an episiotomy, and when i asked how many stiches, the doctor said its best for me not to know.
I still seem to be suffering with the scar tissure, a few times i get an aching pain that feels like i did 1 day after the birth!!
Am i likely to tear which this scar is, and will it still stretch like it should do??
Thanks

Hi,
Havnt got the answer to your question, but would like to know, i also had alot of stitches when i had my dd. So bump!

charleepeters · 24/05/2005 19:32

i had loads of stitches when i had ds, they were one layer of skin from going through to my bowel i was prepped for theater but luckily the m/w stopped it, so i am v.interested in this topic.

hunkermunker · 24/05/2005 19:34

I'm interested too! Had a second degree (was touch and go as to it being a third degree tear) tear with DS and LOTS of stitches. Still got hard (totally unstretchy) scar tissue

leahbump · 24/05/2005 19:35

bumpety bump- I too would like to know. I had a epis (thingy) and keylands forcepts with ds (due to long labour etc).....had sticthes!

If it's any comfort a friend had her second after LOTS of stitches last time and had a small second degree tear this time....was totally different as most damage was internal last time and this time it didn't even have stitches !!

I had tears with my first two babies and them an episiotomy with third child. That was the most comfortable of all stitches. How people dont tear i dont know ! !

Louise1980 · 24/05/2005 20:03

I had an epesiotomy with my 1st birth and loads of stitches.

With my second pregnancy I took raspberry leaf tablets for the last 3weeks. I didnt need an epesiotomy, didnt tear a bit!

I also had a much easier labour and birth.

jessicasmummy · 24/05/2005 20:05

I had a tiny "graze" first time round, no stitches - concerned this time (due oct) that i may tear and scared stiff at the thought of stitches - nice stories please!

allyco · 24/05/2005 20:28

First DD had episiotomy. Yuk.

Second DD said throughout pregnancy I don't to be cut, no episiotomy etc. etc. Then DD had huge head (weighed 9lbs 11ozs) that got stuck. I started to tear down old scar so they gave me another episiotomy so had tear and cut.

Third DD had tear.

Fourth DD no cuts, no tears, no grazes (but big bloody s-section scar

Did anyone else find a natural tear healed much better than an episiotomy as I thought they did?

marne · 24/05/2005 20:47

I had a natural 2nd deg tear and graze, that was 16 months ago, still feels tender sometimes so i dont think it makes much differance.

I had a 2nd degree tear & loads of stitches with dd1.DD2 arrived 21 months later, with no stitches needed at all, despite a lightning fast labour & the baby having her hand up by her head & coming out like superman.

My counsel for you is to check out stretching. I have some stretching technique videos on my site www.thebirthinglady.com, but there are other places you can find good stretching techniques.

DM me on my site and I would be happy to give you some free advice. I am a doula in UT.

Well if it helps I had 3rd degree with dd1, no tear with dd2

ThatBadCat · 26/07/2012 20:53

I don't know if personal stories will reassure you, but I had episiotomy, forceps, nasty infection after dd1, felt awful for weeks after. Dd2, I did lots of perenium massage, had a water birth... No tearing and felt great the next day.

Cheekychops84 · 26/07/2012 21:23

Hi!

Dc1 - c section
Dc2 - 2nd degree long tear and stitches
Dc3 - tore but as it was 'sitting together' nicely the midwife gave me the choice and I opted for no stitches - it healed beautifully
Dc4 - due in sept. keeping my fingers crossed!

Hth. :)

soandsosmum · 03/08/2012 22:22

I had a third degree tear with dd1 and have been told I am twice as likely to tear that badly again but only up from 5% to 10% chance, which I take as good odds in my favour
