Im worried about his health...

Sorry did not know where to post....

My friend has a 6week old son this is her first and I am 5days over due with my first....
So we've been close through out our pregnancy's, discussing everything...

But she has started feeding her 6WEEK OLD SON baby food already
I am worried for his health but she wouldn't listen to me when I was ''telling her off'' she just says ''well he's a hungry baby !''

Baby's are not ment to be fed food until at least 6months !
we had the same midwife as one another....
I am seeing her on Monday, do you think i should tell our midwife about what she is doing?
I am really worried about his health......

Oh dear. Please do tell her that they go through a growth spurt at 5, 7 and 12 weeks where they feed alot more, it's normal and doesn't mean they need weaning. She would have been discharged from the midwife now though, you could mention it and ask her to get in touch with your friends HV.

that is really, really dangerous

feeding a newborn food other than milk can, rarely, but sometimes be fatal

too much salt and too much protein can overload the kidneys etc

on whose advice is she doing this?

a hungry baby needs milk milk and more milk

it is very sad she is doing this

point out that jars of food are labelled from 4 - 6 months, not weeks

Her mum knows about it too but seems to be fine with it !

She also has put his feed up when the health visitor told her not too...

WHat should I do? I feel the need to do something but she wont listen to me !

what do you mean 'put his feed up'?

I think that means increase the amount of milk per feed?

Poor mite, he'll be vomiting like there's no tomorrow. Speak to your midwife, hopefully she'll pass the info on to the health visitor, she can go and see her and help her make an informed decision.

I had a looney cousin that did this with her 4 week old, the baby became very ill (she was feeding it chocolate and oranges IIRC), SS became involved and the baby was taken into care (there were other issues I believe). Their bodies are not able to cope with food at this age.

That's the thing though, he is finding it REALLY REALLY hard to vomit/ be burped....

I dont want to get her in trouble, and I want to be a good friend, but i would be feeling very guilty and bad for not speaking to someone about it and her son get really ill.....

increasing the amount of milk is fine .

once the bottle is being drained , then it is good practice to make up the bottles with another ounce

it is far safer to give a 6 week old more milk, than anything else

it sounds like hre mum has advised her to do this

I think you're going to have to discuss this with the midwife for your own peace of mind.

I think you're also going to have to be upfront with her that you're going to do this.

You may well have an awful row about it, but it's that or worry you're putting the baby at risk.

At least if you tell her what you're doing, she can't accuse you of going behind her back...

I hope all goes well with this. I would do something promptly...you would feel so bad if something happened to the baby. It is the priority I think.
