Time of day - waters broke 10.30pm, had DD 8.40am

Room - the living room, big enough for the birthpool. Was offered a bucket to wee in (no downstairs loo), but didn't need anything, thankfully.

Who was there? - just the midwife. DH took DS out to buy bread / milk and then to a toddler group as soon as he was up. Midwife #2 arrived just as the head was crowning!

Introductions - about 2 hours after the birth, once I had delivered the placenta and been stitched.

Party wall - our neighbours said they didn't hear a thing! I was relaxed and there was no screaming, just some (loud) counting through the contractions.

I went into labour at 4:30pm and DS was born at 12:08am

We used the dinning room because it fit the birthing pool easiest and has a wooden floor and a big comfy sofa.

I had my DH and my midwife and the second midwife turned up with about an hour to go and sat in the living room - I didn't fancy an audience!

DS is our first.

On the toilet side of things my midwife told me it was fine to wee in the birthing pool as wee was sterile. Anything else gets removed with a seive. (Lovely!)

  1. What time of day did you go into labour?

4am

  1. Which room did you use and why?

living room - as had only a downstairs bathroom and had wanted to be away from ds in case noise woke him,

  1. Who did you have with you during the birth?
dh, mws(2)

ended up sending ds to sils as thought it was too near his 7am wake up time to risk...

turned out dd arrived just before 6am so would have been fine to leave him in bed.

  1. How soon after did you introduce any older siblings?

ds was dropped around to us at about 10am i think.

V happy memories!!
Thanks!!!

  1. What time of day did you go into labour?
Twinges started about 7am, knew it was the real thing by about midday. Established labour confirmed when I called the MW at 4pm. Baby born at 7pm.
  1. Which room did you use and why?
Bedroom mainly - just because it felt nice and cosy and also I suppose because it is the only room in our house not carpeted
  1. Who did you have with you during the birth?
My Dh and one midwife, other midwife and a student were on the stairs but kept very unobtrusive.
  1. How soon after did you introduce any older siblings?
About an hour after - we had packed DS1 off with my sister and she brought him home shortly after I delivered the placenta. He was a bit tired and confused and I don't think he even clocked DS2 properly, he just gave me a kiss and went straight to bed, so he was very surprised (but happy) when he woke up in the morning!

  1. What time of day did you go into labour?
about 1.30 am but took ages to realise! dd born at 4.15 am.
  1. Which room did you use and why?
Kitchen - solid floor for birth pool
  1. Who did you have with you during the birth?
Just dh and one midwife, too fast for second
  1. How soon after did you introduce any older siblings?
as soon as they woke up next morning - 'we've got a new baby' ds 'where?' I was b/f at the time, so just pointed!

oh - re other questions, our loo was downstairs and I managed to hobble up and down, but the MW recommended two buckets "one for each end" as she elegantly put it, in case I didn't fancy moving.

And party walls - we live in a small 2 bed flat with neighbours above, below and on either side. I meant to post a note but forgot - no-one heard a thing and they were all very surprised to hear I'd had a home birth!

But I did give birth in the day and was relatively quiet so that may have been a factor. (I am not a shouter )

  1. Waters broke 10.30am. Baby born 6.10pm.
  1. Laboured in bath and wandered around a lot upstairs. I had planned to deliver the baby in our bedroom, but he arrived a bit quick in the end and I was standing up
in the bathroom, holding onto the sink.
  1. DH and 1 MW only. MW got there when the head was half out and DH was poised ready to catch. No time for the 2nd MW to arrive
  1. DS1 is grown up and left home so we put him off until the next morning.

When the MW left it was just the three of us for the night. Lovely. A really special time.

1 - around 8 pm waters broke just after putting ds to bed contractions started around midnight DD born at 6.30am.

2 - Used livingroom as we have downstairs loo and were using birthing pool which would not have fitted in to bedroom and so we also had easy access to kitchen for tea and toast!

3 - Had dh (pil came over and looked after ds when he woke in early hours), community midwife and then she was joined by her colleague and a student when I was in final stages).

4 - ds saw baby briefly after she was born (heard him imitating her first cry while he was upstairs with his Grandparents) - But he went to GP's house for the morning while dh and I got some rest.

  1. What time of day did you go into labour?

#1 6.30am
#2 9am
#3 9am
#4 10.30pm

  1. Which room did you use and why?

#1 sitting room - the only place I could fit the birth pool!
#2 different house - front sitting room - more private
#3 different house again - kitchen/diner (where the table usually is) - best place for pool as it was Christmas time and we had a tree in the front room!
#4 front room - best place for the pool as we had a new, heavier dining table so couldn't move it as easily

  1. Who did you have with you during the birth?

DH and my Mum and the MW for DD1 and DD2. DD1 and DD2 were there when DD3 and when DD4 were born.

  1. How soon after did you introduce any older siblings?

#2 - DD1 woke up three hours after DD2 was born and met her then
#3 - DD1 and DD2 both around when DD3 was born
#4 - DD1 around when DD4 was born, and DD2 had asked to be woken so came down a minute or two afterwards. DD3 was fast asleep so we let her sleep as she was only 21m.
