Has sex actually worked for anyone?

I mean to start labour of course....

I'm desperate enough to try pretty much anything now but I'd just like to hear any success stories before I go about finding a position in which it's even possible.

I heard at our NCT classes that ingesting sperm was most effective - I'm thinking of a raspberry leaf tea/spoof cocktail if I get desperate enough.

1st pg - bonked, waters broke and serious, full-on contractions started within the hour.

2nd pg - bonked, and bonked, and bonked, and bonked, and nothing fecking happened. nipple-twiddling, that's what finally got her started.

lol at cupcakes - as if any other position is possible when you're the size of a whale! or is that just me?

happyflower · 06/07/2009 14:16

Didn't work for me, I tried everything (sex, orgasms, pineapple, walking, evening primrose oil, nipple twiddling - all recommended by midwife!)
What did definitely work was stretch and sweep - had one when I was 7 days overdue. Midwife said that if it was going to work it would work in 24-48 hrs. After 48hr nothing had happened, so I tried some more nipple stimulation and that got things going. Baby was born 12 hrs later. (nipple thing, think it's 15mins each side for an hour at a time - if it's working you feel some cramps)
I did look at NICE guidelines for 'induction of birth' and stretch and sweep and nipple stim are the only things with scientific 'proof' behind them.

If I'm being honest I dont think anything will work to trigger labour, baby will come when its ready, sure people might do something then labour starts......but that could just be coincidence IMO anyway.

All my 3 were overdue so I sympathise with your long wait xx

LittleWhiteWolf · 06/07/2009 15:58

monkeyfacegrace, sadly I've only gone quiet because I'm all fed up and DH had to get me out of the house before I started climbing the walls.

Still no baby

funwithfondue · 06/07/2009 16:48

Yep, twelve hours later (and four pineaples) went into labour.

monkeyfacegrace · 06/07/2009 18:38

It wont be much longer wolf! Im so jealous reading this thread, my waters went with my son at 32+6 so I kinda feel cheated out of the exciting wait at the end!

MustHaveaVeryShortMemory · 06/07/2009 20:57

four pineapples?! Just had a half and can't face anymore...

One thing I havent tried is pineapple--I'm really not a fan of them.

I've been baking like crazy today and even prepared meatballs for dinner later. Wondering if this is my own version of nesting and maybe it'll be soon???

thelollipoplady · 07/07/2009 19:43

my sympathies littlewhitewolf, my due date is today and still nothing, despite lots of sex / acupuncture / and pineapple!

last time i went 10 days past my due date and had to be induced - and I did everything possible, including downing a couple of bottles of castor oil.

at the end i was so frustrated that if any body dared to phone / text to ask if i'd had the baby, i lost it.

preparing for the same this time round. not really what i'd describe as an 'exciting wait' monkeyface...!

my secret weapons this time are a good boxset, lots of trashy novels and hiding the mobile phone/calendar.

alibobble · 07/07/2009 19:56

yes worked for us with dd. Am gutted that DH is refusing to have sex with me at the moment as due date is 1 1/2 weeks away and he doesn't want it early. I'm like... COME ON! Never mind. That said it only works if it's ready to start anyway, the prostoglandins in the sperm help start off contractions but had a friend who tried pineapple, curry, sex you name it and baby was happy to stay put till they put a drip in her hand.

mamalove2 · 07/07/2009 20:59

im a newbie so a big hello to you all!.... yes to your Q, sex seemed to work for me, my midwife suggested it, which in turn i suggested to my OH, he was horrified (ha ha) i told him that he had no choice or say in the matter as by that point id had enough, we managed it and what a palaver it was but it worked and i was on my way roughly 7 hours later. woo hoo! good luck!

LittleWhiteWolf · 08/07/2009 11:30

ha, thelollipoplady, I'm getting that way! People keep telling me to get a move on, like its my fault. I'm getting dangerously close to smacking people!
