Hello
I have just given birth to my first baby (11 days ago) and still look about 4 months pregnant. Is this normal?! i have no idea what to expect re my tummy going down, how long does it take on average? and why is it still so big, is it the uterus or just post pregnacy fat?!
thanks

It is very normal

I can't remember how long it takes to go down - a few weeks to look like a normal tummy I guess, and (in my case) many months to look un-fat again.

I think at least some of it is because your uterus is still large and high (your MW should be able to tell you about this, it shrinks down with your post-partum bleeding and afterpains), some beacuse your muscles are stretched and floppy, and maybe seperated in the middle. And some is just plain old fat, yes!

I asked my mw this and she said I needed to stop bleeding and then my womb would shrink back to normal size.

thanks. reassuring it's normal!
