Best food/drinks for getting you through labour?

Hi,

what foods have got you through labour? I'm due a week tomorrow with my first and have some slow-release foods, e.g. oat cakes already in my bag. I keep hearing about glucose tablets but don't know where to get them. Would welcome any suggestions of what food / drinks worked for others!

Thanks

Ice, ice, ice and more ice!

I have a bag with three sections:
Sweet: digestives biscuits, choccie biscuits jelly babies, mikado
Salty: crisps, cheesy sticks, pringles
Healthy: cereal bars and dried fruits, bananas
(This is for both dh and I and yup, quite a big bag...)

I also made some pasta salad with sliced frankfurters, black olives, black eyed peas and red/yellow peppers to take in a tupperware, to have with either yoghurt or mayo.

Drinks: Water & Lucozade

I'd like to take some ice, how did you guys store it?

All I wanted was ice. The bought kind - it's harder, and crunches more satisfactorily!

June2009 - I took in an Eskie thing, with 2 bags full. I also put hummous and some nice water and real fruit juice in there, for after the birth. Hospital food is minging, usually. Corn chips and cereal bars as well, but in my bag.

The ice is especially fantastic if you have a water birth, as it regulates your temp - though the pool needs to be cooled right down for the actual birth, obviously.

Oh, and I didn't feel sick at all, and I sucked on the gas and air non-stop by the end! But I wasn't at all hungry, either, once I reached hospital. I was too - occupied at that point!

Foxes Glacier Fruits saw me through my labour although I have to say I did nearly choke on one. A boiled sweet + contraction + gas and air do not make a good combination
