Basically what the subject says! Just interested to know what other peoples experiences are, and also what time of day did you go into labour?

10pm in bed reading Harry Potter big loud pop and my waters had gone, DS born at 4am by CS next day (also my birthday!)
Midwives brought me a cake which would have been great if i could have moved my legs to get to it grr!

HumphreyCobbler · 17/05/2009 21:45

waters went at 11pm while watching tv

dh shoved the sofa off the persian rug damn quick

thell · 18/05/2009 11:56

Woke at 4am with what felt like a mild period pain which came and went in a little wave. Got up to the bathroom to check if my waters had gone - at first nothing, then a couple of drips on the bathroom floor (hindwaters).

Big mean old proper contractions didn't start til 8.30pm when the MW did ARM, as hospital were threatening me with no homebirth if I didn't go into active labour with 24hrs of the first rupture

Worked though

purplemonkeydishwasher · 18/05/2009 12:01

making dinner (little after 5). had to get DH to finish while i started to time the contractions. had dd less than 2 hours later!

Amanda1977 · 18/05/2009 12:47

I was talking to one of my bosses on my last day of work (DD was 2 weeks early!) at 4.30 pm when my waters went, I thought perhaps I'd wet myself so politely excused myself to go to the loo and realised that this flow would not stop!!! I wasn't in any pain so sat on a binliner and some towels to open my leaving pressies. A friend took me home at 5pm and about 6.30pm I started having painful contractions that came too hard and fast to time! Midwife arrived at 7.25pm to find me on my hands and knees on bathroom floor 10cm dilated and Freya popped out at 7.55pm! I wouldn't work to 38 weeks again!

stuffitlllama · 18/05/2009 12:51

dd2 -- in hospital being monitored for something else

from where I promptly discharged myself without telling the midwife

Littlepurpleprincess · 18/05/2009 13:07

I was lying in bed with DP watching a Disney movie when waters broke. I stood up and said "why am I all wet?" not realising what was happening. was 36weeks and 6 days.

MarthaFarquhar · 18/05/2009 13:09

mild contractions in waitrose in the afternoon. Got the shopping home on the bus before waters broke, thank goodness.

Niecie · 18/05/2009 13:21

DS1 - waters broke at 3pm exactly, just as I was having a wee before going to Toys R Us to get come cot bedding with my mum. She rang the door bell a minute later to be faced with me waddling and shocked. Contractions kicked in at about 11pm just after DH and I finished building the cot (it only arrived 4 days before and we planned on using a moses basket for the first few weeks so not as disorganised as it sounds).

DS2 woke up with achy pains at about 7.30am, wondered if this was it for a few hours and then just as I had decided it was and that the hospital had been convinced that it was for real, my waters broke and DS2 was born at home 20 mins later at 12.20pmish.

FabulousBakerGirl · 18/05/2009 13:25

Baby 1 - didn't go into labour.
Baby 2 - 9.30pm, had just got into bed.
Baby 3 - 9.30pm, had just got into bed.

Tulia · 18/05/2009 13:28

i love reading threads like this i am so nosy!

both my labours started with my waters breaking - not a massive gush but it was fairly obvious it was my waters breaking iyswim

dd1 - felt my waters break and contractions start whilst watching tv at 9pm (i was in for a long night, she was born the following day at 8pm!)

dd2 - woke up with a few contractions and then felt my waters go at about 5am (and she was born just after 11am same day so much quicker than dd1)

francagoestohollywood · 18/05/2009 13:31

Both times I was at home and in bed, as both times I had my first contractions in the morning, at around 6 am with ds and maybe 8 am with dd.

Poledra · 18/05/2009 13:42

DD1 - had twinges all through Sunday, then ino proper contractions at 2am on Mon.

DD2 - got up on my due date, went out for coffee with my mum, twinges started. Proper contractions started through the night

DD3 - induction at 40+1

I've never had my waters break naturally, I've always had ARM, strangely.

Allegrogirl · 18/05/2009 16:09

Waters broke at 12.30 am Monday in bed. By 2.30 am Friday they were still breaking but no labour so put on a drip in a delivery room.

KnickKnack · 18/05/2009 16:11

1st time...in bed having an afternoon nap

2nd time...never went into labour despite 2 days of gel in hospital

fruitshootsandheaves · 18/05/2009 16:14

DD1 ...in hospital, reading a book

DS1 .. just waking up in morning

DD2... eating chicken tikka masala

DS2.. at a steam rally, had to drive home sitting on a sainsburys carrier bag as I was bleeding.

Gillyan · 18/05/2009 16:15

Asleep in bed, woke up at 12 noon to my waters breaking, GUSHING everwhere!

Tidey · 18/05/2009 16:20

DS - Watching Monarch of the Glen and eating a rather revolting dinner (DP can't cook)

DD - In hospital because she was induced.

hairtwiddler · 18/05/2009 16:25

Depends on when you decide I went into labour....
3pm eating new years buffet at pals house (blissfully unaware as was only 36 weeks at time) or 9am next day at home while washing breakfast dishes.

Horton · 18/05/2009 17:01

About 5.30 am in bed, asleep until this time so no idea what time it started. Glad to hear others' DHs have been as rubbish as mine. He was impossible to wake up for at least an hour and then said 'Are you sure? Do you think I can go back to sleep for a bit?'

I will leave you to imagine what my response was.

BillSilverFoxBuchanan · 18/05/2009 17:03

I'd just returned from walking the dog a couple of miles to the vet and back as he was ill.

Sat down on the sofa to watch Diagnosis Murder (so around 3pm ish) and had a sudden urge to go for a wee.

Was getting up from the toilet when my waters broke - they went with the impressive big whoosh that you see in films!

rainbowdays · 18/05/2009 18:39

Was I the only person typing on mn when my labour started?
It was 5.30am I could not sleep (due to being woken up by dd, and having settled her back to sleep). I was fidgiting so distracted myself with mumsnetting. Then suddenly at 6am got a sharp twinge. Then a couple of mins later another one, and then again..... suddenly realised that this might be something, so carried on typing on mn while using a contraction timer, three contractions later, suddenly went "oh my goodness, I'm in labour" typed that on mn before waking dh etc. Baby arrived an hour later at home (never made it out the door to the car).

smartiejake · 18/05/2009 19:38

DD1 Waters broke just as the delivery man arrived with the wardrobe for the baby's room. He disappeared quick smart when I told him I was waiting for DH to arrive to take me to the hospital! (Obviously didn't want to be involved in a different kind of delivery )

DD2 I was just getting into to bed when I heard a pop and just made it into the bathroom as my waters broke (lino floor so saved the carpets!)

bumpsoon · 18/05/2009 20:24

didnt actually start labout here ,but had got bored and decided to go for a drive ,like you do when your in labour!! Dh had wandered off in the supermarket and i had the most enormous contraction in the toilet roll aisle ,just as some poor bloke wandered around the corner ,he took one look at me and ran
